This weekly series
will include as many of my all-time favorite tunes as I can get my grubby
little hands on (so to speak). Now, each
one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit
only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered. For I just cannot bring myself to rate some
higher than others. So, this will not be
a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t
matter. Besides, with no countdown, this
could go on forever and ever! Oh, and
despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can
be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions that you might dare to
make. I am, after all, quite magnanimous
by nature.

An American Trilogy
Elvis Presley
Oh I wish I was in
the land of cotton
Old things there
are not forgotten
Look away
Look away
Look away
Dixieland
Oh, I wish I was in
Dixie
Away
Away
In Dixieland I take
my stand
To live and die in
Dixie
For in Dixieland
I was born
Early Lord
One frosty morn
Look away
Look away
Look away
Dixieland
Glory glory
Hallelujah
Glory glory
Hallelujah
Glory glory
Hallelujah
His truth is
marchin’ on
So hush
Little baby
Don't you cry
You know your
daddy's
Is bound to die
But all
My trials Lord
Will soon be over
Glory glory
Hallelujah
His truth is
marchin’ on
His truth is
marchin’ on

God Bless the
U.S.A.
Lee Greenwood
If tomorrow all my
things were gone
I'd worked for all
my life
And I had to start
again
With just my
children and my wife
I'd thank my lucky
stars
To be livin' here
today
'Cause the flag
still stands for freedom
And they can't take
that away
And I'm proud to be
an American
Where at least I
know I'm free
And I won't forget
the men who died
Who gave that right
to me
And I’d gladly
stand up
Next to you
And defend her
still today
'Cause there ain't
no doubt I love this land
God bless the U.S.A.
From the lakes of
Minnesota
To the hills of
Tennessee
Across the plains
of Texas
From sea to shinin’
sea
From Detroit down
to Houston
And New York to L.A
Where there's pride
in every American heart
And its time we
stand and say
That I'm proud to
be an American
Where at least I
know I'm free
And I wont forget
the men who died
Who gave that right
to me
And I’d gladly
stand up
Next to you
And defend her
still today
'Cause there ain't
no doubt I love this land
Love this land
God bless the U.S.A.
And I'm proud to be
an American
Where at least I
know I'm free
And I wont forget
the men who died
Who gave that right
to me
And I’d gladly
stand up
Next to you
And defend her
still today
'Cause there ain't
no doubt I love this land
Love this land
God bless the U.S.A.

Happy 4th of July.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Adullamite!!! I am beginning to wonder if we missed it or the police has made a preemptive raid. For we have more than our share of hooligans all too close by, who love to shoot off fireworks year around to mask the sounds of their guns going off, and it has been deathly quiet so far.
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day, Jerry!
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of July, from me as well. Like the Presley song, brings back memories. Springsteen - this land is your land - allways makes me think of 4th july. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure 'deathly quiet' is the best expression to use there......
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Veronica!!! Oh my, it has been such a long time! I hope you-all have doing well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Alan!!! Speaking of memories, one of the bars that I was a regular at during the years after my first wife ran me off was the Branding Iron in Joplin, Missouri. The house band was The Solid Gold Band, and I was not the only one who considered them as being every bit as good as Alabama--only without a big recording contract. Anyway, whenever they would play An American Trilogy, everyone in the bar would stop what they were doing and stand transfixed until the song was over. I suppose one would have had to have been there, but I consider it one of the most amazing things I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! Me thinks you just might have a point... By the way, it is still all quiet on this front.
ReplyDeleteA treat hearing Elvis but the Lee Greenwood song is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of July
Thanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! Even after hearing it literally thousands of times, I have yet to tire of Greenwood's anthem.
ReplyDeleteElvis was The King and remains The King!
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a great 4th of July, Jerry.
Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! I have never been all that big of an Elvis fan, but there is no disputing what an awesome voice he was given.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this! All of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Penny!!! I am really glad you enjoyed this, and I hope you-all are having a wonderful Fourth!
