ATF: A.M./F.M.

This weekly series will include as many of my all-time favorite tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions that you might dare to make.  I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

W-O-L-D
Harry Chapin
Hello honey
It’s me
What did you think
When you heard me
Back on the radio
What did the kids say
When they knew it was
Their long lost daddy-o

Remember how
We listened to the radio
And I said
That’s the place to be
And how I got the job
As an F.M. jock
The day you married me
It was two kids
And I was into A.M. rock
But I just had to run around
It’s been eight years
Since I left you babe
Let me tell you ‘bout
What’s gone down

I am the morning DJ
At W-O-L-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D
W-O-L-D
Playin’ all the hits for you
Wherever you may be
The bright good morning voice
Who’s heard
But never seen
Aaah
Feelin’ all of forty-five
Goin’ on fifteen

The drinkin’ I did on my last big gig
It made my voice go low
They said that they liked the young sound
Sound sound sound
When they let me go
So I drifted on down to Tulsa Oklahoma
To do me a late night talk show
Now I worked my way down home again
Here to Boise Idaho
That’s how this business goes

I am the morning DJ
At W-O-L-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D
W-O-L-D
Playin’ all the hits for you
Wherever you may be
The bright good morning voice
Who’s heard
But never seen
Aaah
Feelin’ all of forty-five
Goin’ on fifteen

I’ve been makin’ extra money
Doin’ high school sock hops
I’m a big time guest MC
You should hear me talkin’
To the little children
And listen what they say to me
There’s a spot on the top of my head
Just beggin’ for a new toupee
And a tire around my gut
From sittin’ on my
But it’s never gonna go away

Sometimes I get this crazy dream
That I just take off in my car
But you can travel on ten thousand miles
And still stay where you are
I’ve been thinkin’ that
I should stop disc-jockeyin’
And start that record store
Maybe I could settle down
If you take me back once more

OK honey
I see
I guess he’s better than me
Sure ol’ girl
I understand
You don’t have to worry
I’m such a happy man

F.M. (No Static at All)
Steely Dan
Worry the bottle mama
It's grapefruit wine
Kick off your high heel sneakers
It's party time
The girls don't seem to care
What's on
As long as they play ‘til dawn
Nothin' but blues and Elvis
And somebody else’s favorite song

Give her some funked up music
She treats you nice
Feed her some hungry reggae
She'll love you twice
The girls don't seem to care
Tonight
As long as the mood is right

No static at all
No static
No static at all
F.M.
No static at all

Give her some funked up music
She treats you nice
Feed her some hungry reggae
She'll love you twice
The girls don't seem to care
Tonight
As long as the mood is right

No static at all
No static
No static at all
F.M.
No static at all

  1. I was a big fan of Harry back in the day. He's got some great songs. Cats in the cradle was one of my favorites

  2. I think I wore my Steely Dan "Can't Buy a Thrill" LP to wafer thin!

The new season of "The Killing" that started here the other night is the Danish version, not the US one, unfortunately. I may or may not watch it (I recorded it) - it depends on whether I feel like reading subtitles or not! Probably the latter!

  3. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! Be assured that his "Cat's in the Cradle" will be included in this series later on.

  4. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! Be assured that "Do It Again" and "Reelin' in the Years" will be included in this series before it is all over with. I am sorry to hear that about your new season of The Killing. It looks like they do not have it set up to watch episodes on the A&E website. Hey, maybe you could learn to understand Danish?

  5. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Adullamite!!! Where are we going? Oh, and The Cars' "Drive" will also be included later on.

  6. Ahh...the US version of "The Killing" will soon be on our screens, no doubt. I'll wait for that one to appear.

I did watch a good movie last night, though..."The Town" starring Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner...directed by Affleck and he also co-wrote the screenplay. I really enjoyed it.

Affleck is a most worthy participant in the movie industry!

  7. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lee!!! So, maybe you won't have to learn Danish after all? (LOL?)

I sure agree with you about Ben Afflect. We have not seen "The Town" yet, but one of the most intense movies we have ever seen was "Gone Baby Gone," which was written and directed by Ben. He had his younger brother, Casey, in the starring role, as well as Amy Ryan in a major supporting role, which was of great significance to us at the time. For we are bth HUGE fans of HBO's The Wire, and Amy Ryan had prominent role on the series, which ended in 2008. If you have never watched The Wire, I highly recommend it, but it might take a couple of tries before you get addicted. Well, at least that is the way it was with us, but it is now a show that I can watch over and over again, which is really something for me to say.
