A Sunday Drive

Back during my childhood, our parents would often load up my brother and I after Sunday morning church services for a leisurely drive around where we lived. Even though we were seeing mostly familiar sights, it was still good to see them, and this is why “A Sunday Drive” sounded about right for the name of a weekly series revisiting familiar sites that are well worth seeing again and again. The link below the image is to the site itself, and the image is linked to the post it was first included in here.

Faces' Stay With Me

Link: [Faces]

Just to be clear, there is nothing of any redeeming value to the lyrics of this song. Well, except for providing more evidence of just how deep the depths of our natural depravity can reach, but the instrumentalism involved is an entirely different story. Oh yeah, in regards to the sound, CRANK IT UP!!!

Stay With Me
Faces
In the mornin’
Don’t say you love me
‘Cause I’ll only kick you out of the door
I know your name is Rita
‘Cause your perfume’s smellin’ sweeter
Since when I saw you down on my dinin’ floor

I don’t need to tell ya
That you look just like a fella
But you really shouldn’t wear your hair back so
Red lips
Hair
And fingernails
I guess you’re a mean old Jezebel
Let’s go upstairs and read my Tarot cards

Stay with me
Stay with me
‘Cause tonight you’re gonna stay with me

Stay with me
Stay with me
‘Cause tonight you’re gonna stay with me

So in the mornin’
Don’t say you love me
‘Cause you know I’ll only kick you out the door
I know you’re name is Rita
‘Cause your perfume’s smellin’ sweeter
Since when I saw you down on my dinin’ floor

Stay with me
Stay with me
‘Cause tonight you’re gonna stay with me

Stay with me
Stay with me
‘Cause tonight you’re gonna stay with me

Stay with me
Stay with me
‘Cause tonight you’re gonna stay with me

Stay with me
Stay with me
‘Cause tonight you’re gonna stay with me

The Offspring's Pretty Fly (For A White Guy}

This song is dedicated to Saggy Britches. If you are not quite sure who you are, go ask your mom. She knows.

Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)
The Offspring
Unta gottlebien
Rockin Rollin

Give it to me baby
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
Give it to me baby
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
Give it to me baby
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
And all the girlies say
I’m pretty fly for a white guy

Uno dos tres
Cuatro
Cinco cinco seis

You know it’s kind of hard
Just to get along today
Our subject isn’t cool
But he fakes it anyway
He may not have a clue
And he may not have style
But everything he lacks
Well
He makes up in denial

So don’t debate
A player straight
You know he really
Doesn’t get it anyway
He’s gonna play the field
And keep it real
For you no way
For you no way
So if you don’t rate
Just overcompensate
At least you’ll know
You can always go on Ricki Lake
The world needs wannabes
So
Hey
Hey
Do that brand new thing

Give it to me baby
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
Give it to me baby
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
Give it to me baby
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
And all the girlies say
I’m pretty fly for a white guy

He needs some cool tunes
Not just any will suffice
But they didn’t have Ice Cube
So he bought Vanilla Ice
Now cruising in his Pinto
He sees homies as he pass
But if he looks twice
They’re gonna kick his lily a$$

So don’t debate
A player straight
You know he really
Doesn’t get it anyway
He’s gonna play the field
And keep it real
For you no way
For you no way
So if you don’t rate
Just overcompensate
At least you’ll know
You can always go on Ricki Lake
The world loves wannabes
So
Hey
Hey
Do that brand new thing

Now he’s getting’ a tattoo
Yeah he’s getting’ ink done
He asked for a 13
But they drew a 31
Friends say he’s tryin’ too hard
And he’s not quite hip
But in his own mind
He’s the
He’s the dopest trip

Give it to me baby
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
Give it to me baby
Uh-huh
Uh-huh
Give it to me baby
Uh-huh
Uh-huh

Uno dos tres
Cuatro
Cinco cinco seis

So don’t debate
A player straight
You know he really
Doesn’t get it anyway
He’s gonna play the field
And keep it real
For you no way
For you no way
So if you don’t rate
Just overcompensate
At least you’ll know
You can always go on Ricki Lake
The world needs wannabes
So
The world loves wannabes
So
Let’s get some more wannabes
And
Hey
Hey
Do that brand new thing

WhiteHeart Wednesday

Link: [Nothing But The Best: Radio Classics]

MP3 Audio From: [BlogDumps Video]

A Love Calling
WhiteHeart
Like the dawn breakin’
The Light came shinin’ through
And a heart broken
Is now a heart given to You
But still there’s somethin’ deeper
Somethin’ more than gratitude
And it’s
Sayin’
Sayin’
Sayin’
There’s so much more that we can do

We’ve got a Love callin’
A Love callin’
Oh we’ve got a Love callin’
‘Cause we hear Love callin’

Ah there’s a new wind blowin’
Since we’ve been given this call
When Your Spirit is leadin’
Oh it doesn’t feel like a burden at all
There are still lands locked in darkness
There are hearts like an empty room
And we’ll never know how to help them
Until Father
We listen to You

We’ve got a Love callin’
A Love callin’
Oh we got a Love callin’
‘Cause we hear Love callin’

Like the rustle of an autumn breeze
I can hear You whisper inside of me
And I know
In my heart of hearts I do believe
Now I’m thankin’ You for givin’ me

A Love callin’
Oh a Love callin’
Oh we’ve got a Love callin’
‘Cause we hear Love callin’
Callin’ for a new vision
Oh a heart mission
Oh and it’s drawin’
It’s drawin’ us
‘Cause we hear Love callin’

A love callin’

Do you hear His love callin’
Do you give yourself away

Oh do you feel He’s drawin’ you nearer

Do you feel Him drawin’ near you

TWO FOR TUESDAY {REDO}

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

One of Us
Joan Osborne

If God had a name
What would it be
And would you call it to His face
If you were faced with Him in all His glory
Would you ask if you had just one question

And yeah
Yeah
God is great
Yeah
Yeah
God is good
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Tryin’ to make His way home

If God had a face
What would it look like
And would you want to see
If seein’ meant that you would have to believe
In things like Heaven and in Jesus and the saints
And all the prophets

And yeah
Yeah
God is great
Yeah
Yeah
God is good
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Tryin’ to make His way home

Tryin’ to make His way home
Back up to Heaven all alone
Nobody callin’ on the phone
‘Cept for the pope maybe in Rome

And yeah
Yeah
God is great
Yeah
Yeah
God is good
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Tryin’ to make His way home
Like a holy rollin’ stone
Back up to Heaven all alone
Just tryin’ to make His way home

Nobody callin’ on the phone
‘Cept for the pope maybe in Rome

Do I Ever Cross Your Mind
Joan Osborne
Sometimes I go walkin’ through fields
Where we walked
Long ago in the sweet used-to-be
And the flowers still grow
But they don’t smell as sweet
As they did when you picked them for me
And when I think of you
And the love we once knew
How I wish we could go back in time
Do you ever think back on old mem’ries like that
Or do I ever cross your mind

Do you ever wake up lonely
In the middle of the night
Because you miss me
Do you darlin’
Oh and do your mem’ries ever take you back
Into another place and time
And do you ever miss the feelings and the love
We shared when you were with me
Do you darlin’
I just wonder
Do I cross your mind

Oh how often I wish that again I could kiss
Your sweet lips like I did long ago
Who often I long for those two lovin’ arms
That once held me so gentle and so close
And when I think of you and the love we once knew
Oh how I wish we could go back in time
Do you ever recall these old mem’ries at all
Or do I ever cross your mind

Do you ever wake up lonely
In the middle of the night
Because you miss me
Do you darlin’
Oh and do your mem’ries ever take you back
Into another place and time
And do you ever miss the feelings and the love
We shared when you were with me
Do you darlin’
I just wonder
Do I cross your mind
Do I ever cross your mind

Come Monday...Spartacus: Blood and Sand

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about, websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is subject to change, however. In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while. For rants promote change, and change can be good—right? Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

Methinks that our Heavenly Father may have ruined “me” (so to speak). For after watching the first episode of the [Starz] original series, [Spartacus: Blood and Sand], all I felt was disgust and disappointment.

Come on now, what is wrong with me? For it had all of the elements that I used to delight in—graphic sex and violence, along with a heavy dose of political intrigue.

Perhaps it is a case of too much of a good thing, but I do not think so. For I have never even considered the possibility that seeing too much of what ladies who look like [Erin Cummings] has to offer could happen. Hey, in the case of [Viva Bianca] in the first episode, we are talking about FULL frontal nudity here!

No, we are not necessarily talking about soft porn. Well, at least not a cheap production. For the show does have a plot.

Those who have never seen [Gladiator], nor [HBO’s Rome], might even enjoy what is going on between scenes of naked bodies writhing in sexual ecstasy and computer-generated slow-motion shots of gushing blood. For it is based upon the exploitation of lesser peoples for the glory of the [Roman Empire].

To get more specific about it, the plot of Spartacus: Blood and Sand starts off with [Glaber], the commander of a Roman Legion, giving a representative group from [Thrace] an offer that they basically cannot refuse, which is to join with him in a rearguard action against a horde of barbarians from the north. When Glaber sees that one of his rivals is in a better position to gain prominence against a greater threat to the empire in the east, he chooses to march his forces there, which would leave the homes of the Thracians defenseless. This forces [Spartacus] to choose between his oath to support the Romans and the possible loss of his drop-dead gorgeous wife, who is played by the aforementioned Ms. Cummings. Needless to say, he chooses to go save his wife, which embarrasses Glaber, who tracks them down and forces both into slavery.

Well, almost. For Spartacus is actually scheduled for death at the hand of four gladiators in front of a roaring crowd for the pleasure and political gain of Glaber’s father-in-law, but Spartacus wasn’t so willing to go along with the script. You can probably figure out where the rest of the story is going on your own.

In all fairness, the producers of the show were able to sign some fairly big names. For [Lucy Lawless], of [Xena: Warrior Princess] fame, and [John Hannah], who you may recognize from [The Mummy] movie series, play key roles.

Maybe they saw something in the show that I missed? I don’t see how. For my eyes were really wide-open for the entire hour. In fact, my mouth was even fully [agape] at times!

No, I do not think I am turning into a prude, but something is going on. Hopefully, my resistance will prove futile.

People of God

I was recently asked to join in on what is going on at a new site by the name of [People of God], and after talking to Paul, who owns and operates the site, I am very hopeful that it truly will be a place where believers can come together in peace and discuss whatever may be on their mind. For this is what our Heavenly Father’s church is supposed to be all about, and I have been looking for such a place without much success at all for quite some time.

No, I do not mean to convey that there are conditions for joining, and I hope there is not. For all of us, as in regards to all of mankind, were created to be our Heavenly Father’s children by faith. Therefore, being a believer beforehand should not be required, but since I have not asked Paul if there are any stipulations for joining yet, I cannot say for sure either way.

Yes, I am well aware of many (if not most) being of the opinion that their beliefs are a personal matter that should not be open for discussion. For I was led to believe such in my earlier years.

Be assured that our Heavenly Father changed my mind about this when He made Himself real to me. For there are certain things that are meant to be just between Him and an individual, but everything else is meant to be out in the open. For the way it is meant to be is that He will personally reveal something to someone, and when they talk about it, another will be helped to understand that they have had the very same thing personally revealed to them, as well.

No, our Heavenly Father does not always make things crystal clear. Well, at least that is the way it has been for me most of the time. It is clear enough, but room is left for doubt.

Yes, it could be argued that it has been all my fault that I have not always fully understood everything that He wanted me to as soon as I should have. For it is written: But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. [James 1:5-8 NAS]

Hence, the reason why I have been looking for a place like I hope People of God will be. For if it really is my fault, I want to know that, and coming from someone else would help me have confidence in the fact that I am not just making something up in my mind, which can work both for and against me.

Of course, the key to it all is being around others who truly can hear our Heavenly Father’s voice. For without that, how could anyone be sure that what help is being offered is truly of our Heavenly Father?

Alas, that is a problem. For it is because of there being so very few that truly can hear His voice, and are willing to heed His instructions, that is the reason why there are so many different denominations of the church that our Heavenly Father established in the name of His only begotten Son, who truly is the Lord Jesus Christ, to be a shining light of hope in a world so deeply steeped in the darkness of Spiritual ignorance.

No, there should not be any debate about this. For all who are truly in Christ are supposed to be of the same mind—His mind, to be exact. For it is written: We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”—but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment: “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. [1 Corinthians 2:6-16 NIV]

It is a hope that I have been given by our Heavenly Father that all in the Christian community will be willing to swallow the great pride that they take in the traditions of their particular faiths and truly humble themselves before Him so that He can personally reveal to them what He is actually says is absolutely true. May People of God be a place where that can start.

By the way, Paul also has [Scripture Arc], which is a site that features different Bible verses daily. Be assured that it is also well worth paying a visit to.
