ATF: Showtunes

This weekly series will include as many of my all-time favorite tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions that you might dare to make.  I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young
Fire, Inc.
I've got a dream 'bout an angel on the beach
And the perfect waves are startin’ to come
His hair is flyin’ out in ribbons of gold
And his touch has got the power to stun
I've got a dream 'bout an angel in the forest
Enchanted by the edge of a lake
His body's flowin’ in the jewels of life
And the earth below is startin’ to shake
But I don't see any angels in the city
I don't hear any holy choirs sing
And if I can't get an angel
I can still get a boy
And a boy'll be the next best thing
The next best thing to an angel
A boy'll be the next best thing

I've got a dream 'bout a boy in a castle
And he's dancin’ like a cat on the stairs
He's got the fire of a prince in his eyes
And the thunder of a drum in his ears
I've got a dream 'bout a boy on a star
Lookin' down upon the rim of the world
He's there all alone
And dreamin' of someone like me
I'm not an angel
But at least I'm a girl
I've got a dream when the darkness is over
We'll be lyin' in the rays of the sun
But it's only a dream
And tonight is for real
You'll never know what it means
But you'll know how it feels
It's gonna be over
Over
Before you know it's begun
Before you know it's begun

Oh it's all we really got
Tonight
Stop your cryin' hold on
Tonight
Before you know it it's gone
Tonight
Tonight is what it means to be young
Tonight is what it means to be young

Let the revels begin
Let the fire be started
We're dancin’ for the restless
And the broken-hearted
Let the revels begin
Let the fire be started
We're dancin’ for the desperate
And the broken-hearted
Let the revels begin
Let the fire be started
Tonight is what it means to be young
We're dancin’ for the restless
And the broken-hearted
Before you know it it’s gone
Let the revels begin
Let the fire be started
Tonight is what it means to be young
We're dancing for the desperate
And the broken-hearted
Before you know it it’s gone
Say a prayer in the darkness
For the magic to come
No matter what it seems
Tonight is what it means to be young
Tonight is what it means to be young
Before you know it it's gone

I've got a dream when the darkness is over
We'll be lyin' in the rays of the sun
But it's only a dream
And tonight is for real
You'll never know what it means
But you'll know how it feels
It's gonna be over
Over
Before you know it's begun
Before you know it’s begun

Oh it's all we really got
Tonight
Stop your cryin' hold on
Tonight
Before you know it it's gone
Tonight
Tonight is what it means to be young
Tonight is what it means to be young

Let the revels begin
Let the fire be started
We're dancin’ for the desperate
And the broken-hearted
Let the revels begin
Let the fire be started
Tonight is what it means to be young
We're dancin’ for the restless
And the broken-hearted
Before you know it it’s gone
Say a prayer in the darkness
For the magic to come
‘Cause no matter what it seems
Tonight is what it means to be young
Tonight is what it means to be young
No matter what it seems
Tonight is what it means to be young
Tonight is what it means to be young
No matter what it seems
Tonight is what it means to be young
Tonight is what it means to be young
No matter what it seems
Tonight is what it means to be young
Before you know it it’s gone
Tonight is what it means to be young
No matter what it seems
Tonight is what it means to be young
Let the revels begin
Tonight is what it means to be young
Let the fire be started
No matter what it seems
We’re dancin’ for the desperate
Tonight is what it means to be young
And the broken-hearted
Tonight is what it means to be young
The things they say
And then the things they do
Nothin's gonna stop us
If our aim is true
The things they say
And then the things they do
Nothin's gonna stop us
If our aim is true
The things they say
And then the things they do
Nothin's gonna stop us
If our aim is true
Let the revels begin
Let the fire be started
We're dancin’ for the desperate
And the broken-hearted
Let the revels begin
Let the fire be started
We’re dancin’ for the restless…

The Little Things
Danny Elfman
Have you heard the news
Bad things come in twos
But I never knew
‘Bout the little things
Every single day
Things get in my way
Someone has to pay
For the little things

And I’m through with the stories
And I’m sick of my shoes
And the walkin’
And the talkin’
It’s got nothin’ to do
With the final solution
It’s a box full of tricks
And I’m through with repairs
When there’s nothin’ to fix
When there’s nothin’ to fix
When there’s nothin’ to fix
And it all comes down to
You-ou-ou

Let the headlines wait
Armies hesitate
I can deal with fate
But not the little things
Armageddon may
Arrive any day
I can’t get away
From the little things

With a pile of cares
And a bucket of tears
I could look at the sunlight
And I feel no fear
With a mountain of maybes
And some Icarus wings
And I’m armed with delusions
And one little thing
And that one little thing
And that one little thing
And it all comes down to
You-ou-ou

Have you heard the news
Bad things come in twos
But I never knew
‘Bout the little things
Every single day
Things get in my way
Someone has to pay
For the little things

Come Monday...Wanted

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about, websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is subject to change, however. In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while. For rants promote change, and change can be good—right? Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

Well, the plan was to use this post to announce the launch of the site where all of the books that our Heavenly Father has given me to publish are contained in the order that they are meant to be read. Quite obviously, it didn’t happen.

I blame much of it upon my poor health. For it often takes almost everything I have just sit in front of the computer—with actually doing something on it being a bonus, but in all fairness, shiny objects still pose quite a distraction.

[Wanted] proved to be a very shiny object. For I wound up watching it twice in as many days when it was on [HBO], even though I did not like the premise for the movie.

Yeah, the rest of it was that good, but those more puritanical at heart than others will probably not be comfortable with any of it. For graphic violence is on display in the vast majority of the scenes, and there are a couple where sex is being simulated.

Nonetheless, if you are looking for some mind-blowing stunts to escape in for a couple of hours, this is it. Hey, just the scene where [Angelina Jolie] scoops up [James McAvoy] while still in motion in a [Dodge Viper] would make the price of admission worthwhile if you were going to see it at a movie theatre.

I have also included two of the songs from the soundtrack here. The first one played very early in the movie, and it is by [Nine Inch Nails]. The second came towards the end of the movie, and it is by [Danny Elfman]. I consider both to be as extraordinary as the movie itself. I hope you feel the same way.

Every Day Is Exactly The Same
Nine Inch Nails

I believe I can see the future
Because I repeat the same routine
I think I used to have a purpose
Then again
That might have been a dream

I think I used to have a voice
I think I used to have a voice
Now I never make a sound
And I just do what I have been told
I really don’t want them to come around
Oh no

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

I can feel their eyes are watching
In case I lose myself again
Sometimes I think I’m happy here
Sometimes
Sometimes
Yeah
I still pretend

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

I’m writing on a little piece of paper
I’m hoping someday you might find

I am still inside
A little bit comes breathing through
I wish this could’ve been any other way
But I just don’t know
I don’t know
What else I can do

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same
Every day is the same
