TWO FOR TUESDAY {REDO}

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

One of Us
Joan Osborne

If God had a name
What would it be
And would you call it to His face
If you were faced with Him in all His glory
Would you ask if you had just one question

And yeah
Yeah
God is great
Yeah
Yeah
God is good
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Tryin’ to make His way home

If God had a face
What would it look like
And would you want to see
If seein’ meant that you would have to believe
In things like Heaven and in Jesus and the saints
And all the prophets

And yeah
Yeah
God is great
Yeah
Yeah
God is good
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Tryin’ to make His way home

Tryin’ to make His way home
Back up to Heaven all alone
Nobody callin’ on the phone
‘Cept for the pope maybe in Rome

And yeah
Yeah
God is great
Yeah
Yeah
God is good
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Tryin’ to make His way home
Like a holy rollin’ stone
Back up to Heaven all alone
Just tryin’ to make His way home

Nobody callin’ on the phone
‘Cept for the pope maybe in Rome

Do I Ever Cross Your Mind
Joan Osborne
Sometimes I go walkin’ through fields
Where we walked
Long ago in the sweet used-to-be
And the flowers still grow
But they don’t smell as sweet
As they did when you picked them for me
And when I think of you
And the love we once knew
How I wish we could go back in time
Do you ever think back on old mem’ries like that
Or do I ever cross your mind

Do you ever wake up lonely
In the middle of the night
Because you miss me
Do you darlin’
Oh and do your mem’ries ever take you back
Into another place and time
And do you ever miss the feelings and the love
We shared when you were with me
Do you darlin’
I just wonder
Do I cross your mind

Oh how often I wish that again I could kiss
Your sweet lips like I did long ago
Who often I long for those two lovin’ arms
That once held me so gentle and so close
And when I think of you and the love we once knew
Oh how I wish we could go back in time
Do you ever recall these old mem’ries at all
Or do I ever cross your mind

Do you ever wake up lonely
In the middle of the night
Because you miss me
Do you darlin’
Oh and do your mem’ries ever take you back
Into another place and time
And do you ever miss the feelings and the love
We shared when you were with me
Do you darlin’
I just wonder
Do I cross your mind
Do I ever cross your mind

  1. I know the first song, never heard the second one before

  2. I was the same way, my dear Ann. I don't think "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" got much air time. Perhaps it is one those songs that is too country for the rock/pop stations to be comfortable with, and with her being so heavily linked with the more radical elements of the womens movement, country stations are undoubtedly very uncomfortable with her? Thanks for stopping by again!!!

  3. The "pope in Rome" isn't the only one "calling" God...
I take joy in talking to Him every day. :)

This song used to bother me, and after awhile it started to grow on me, because it sounds like a sincere heart questioning about God's reality (I think Prince wrote the song, right?)

  4. I had the same initial reaction to the song--mostly just on account of the mention of the pope in it, but then our Heavenly Father got me to see that it addresses the questions that so very many have about Him. Tragically, most do not want to hear Him when He answers their questions, which is the tie-in with the second song. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Rob!!!
