Broken
Lindsey Haun
Wake up to a sunny day
Not a cloud up in the sky
Then it starts to rain
My defenses hit the ground
And they shatter all around
So open and exposed
But I found strength in the struggle
Face to face with my trouble
When you’re broken
In a million little pieces
And you’re tryin’
But you can’t hold on anymore
Every tear
Falls down for a reason
Don’t you stop believin’ in yourself
When you’re broken
Little girl don’t be so blue
I know what you’re goin’ through
Don’t let it beat you up
Hittin’ walls
And getting’ scars
Only makes you who you are
Only makes you who you are
No matter how much your heart is achin’
There is beauty in the breakin’
Yeah
When you’re broken
In a million little pieces
And you’re tryin’
But you can’t hold on anymore
Every tear
Falls down for a reason
Don’t you stop believin’ in yourself
When you’re broken
Better days
Are gonna find you once again
Every piece will find its place
When you’re broken
When you’re broken
When you’re broken
In a million little pieces
And you’re tryin’
But you can’t hold on anymore
Every tear
Falls down for a reason
Don’t you stop believin’ in yourself
When you’re broken
Oh when you’re broken
When you’re broken
When you’re broken

An Almost Perfect Song
If you are not familiar with this song, it is featured in movie, [Broken Bridges], starring [Toby Keith] and [Kelly Preston], along with [Burt Reynolds], [Tess Harper] and [Lindsey Haun] (of course). Hey, even [Willie Nelson] and [BeBe Winans] made an appearance in this great movie that has been in heavy rotation on [CMT] for a while now.
In a number of ways, Broken is almost the perfect song to me. For it starts out soft and slow, and then builds to a very dramatic climax.
The chorus does contain a fatal flaw, however. For instead of it being, Don’t you stop believin’ in yourself, it should have been, Now is not the time to believe in yourself. For tryin’ to believe in ourselves defeats the purpose for brokenness.
Yes, humanists (of both secular and theological persuasions) would vehemently disagree with that. For according to them, we have only ourselves to depend upon.
Hence, the purpose of brokenness. For it when it becomes clear that we don’t have what it takes that we should look for the strength to carry on, and if we keep looking for it in “ourselves,” He will never be found. Well, at least not in time.
No, this is not to say that everyone who refuses to “find” our Heavenly Father will never find victory over their adversities. For one of things that appears to be so very unfair about our lives in this world is that it is not always made crystal clear just what is really going on, and in many cases, it will be made to appear that someone really did triumph over their problems all on their own.
On the other hand, it will be clear to those who want to see just what is really going on, and they will also understand that it will be as it should be in the end. For no one will be able to honestly say that they did not fully understand what our Heavenly Father wanted them to, come Judgment Day, and everyone will get what they have coming to them, which will be mercy for some, and eternal damnation for those who wanted to believe in themselves.
Yes, with [the misery of Haiti] being at the forefront of the current news cycle, it has been made a little harder to believe that our Heavenly Father really cares. That is, of course, if it can be still believed that He even exists.
Nonetheless, let us not ignore that the absolute truth of the matter truly is that our time in this world is not the end of our existences, and those who have had to suffer greatly, like the Haitian people are now, will be blessed beyond natural comprehension in the world to come if they want to give our Heavenly Father the full benefit of their considerable doubts. May we all be like that.

ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Charity!!! (I think.)
ReplyDeleteVery nice song. Just from watching the video I think I want to see that movie.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! You may have to do it when your husband is not around. For "CMT" stands for "Country Music Television," and that is what is played in the movie. However, I do believe that it would worth the risk. Hey, if he tries to give you any grief, sick Duke on him!
ReplyDeleteI love the song this is the first time i hear it. awesome. she has a great soft sweet melodious voice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Zuveena!!! Yeah, it is indeed a great song, and I don't know why she hasn't recorded more songs.
