Come Monday...58-10

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

58-10 is by how much [Texas A&M] humiliated my beloved [Arkansas Razorbacks] last Saturday.  It was the fourth loss in a row for the preseason [#10-ranked] FBS team, and I would not be surprised if they didn’t win another game this season with most of the players back from a team that only lost two games all of last season.

What happened?  John L. Sullivan becoming the head coach after Bobby Petrino was flagged for holding a sweet, young thing is what happened.

Okay, he really wasn’t caught holding her.  For the [“stuff”] hit the proverbial fan after it came out that she was on the back of his Harley when he crashed it during the offseason, but that isn’t a football penalty.  Whereas, [holding] is.

Nope, I do not believe that the athletic director of the University of Arkansas will be wanting to hold onto the cheerful Mr. Sullivan after this season, and I am wondering if the university should be looking for a new athletic director, as well.  For the men’s basketball team has been a joke for over a decade now, and the reasoning behind the hiring of John L. Sullivan as the head football coach instead of promoting one of the assistants sure seems to indicate that there is something terribly wrong with the directorship of the athletic department.

Yep, there is most certainly more to putting a winning team on the field than just signing the most talented players.  The 2012 Arkansas Razorbacks stand as very [ugly] proof of that.

So do the [New Orleans Saints] of the NFL.  For after their head coach was [suspended] for the year on account of his participation in the alleged bounty program, the Saints are yet to win a game this season, and we are talking about a collection of some very talented professional athletes here.

Yes, coaching does make a lot of difference.  Take my high school alma mater, [Cassville], for another example.  For they just won their 33^rd straight regular season game last Friday night, and I do not know of any of their players being good enough to pay football for likes of Arkansas.

It mainly has to do with motivation.  Yeah, calling the right plays goes a long way, but it is a player’s willingness to give all that they have play after play that makes the difference between having a winning team and having to tell reporters to smile during a press conference.

Yes, there are sorts of ways to motivate a player, and [Billy Gillispsie] picked the wrong ones.  So did [Mark Mangino], and I am quite sure that there are a lot more.

Thankfully, that doesn’t seem to be the case with the head football coach of the Cassville Wildcats.  For according to my little brother’s wife, everyone in town absolutely loves David Large, and she is not one to be saying something like that out of hand, which tells me that this love has little to do with him fielding such great teams year after year.  (In the spirit of full disclosure, I am fairly sure that it doesn’t hurt.)
