TFT: Joss Stone

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world.  For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously fervent rants of rebellion.  Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

Right To Be Wrong
Joss Stone
I've got a right to be wrong
My mistakes will make me strong
I'm stepping out into the great unknown
I'm feeling wings though I've never flown
I've got a mind of my own
I'm flesh and blood to the bone
See I'm not made of stone
Got a right to be wrong
So just leave me alone

I've got a right to be wrong
I've been held down too long
I've got to break free
So I can finally breathe
I've got a right to be wrong
Got to sing my own song
I might be singing out of key
But it sure feels good to me
Got a right to be wrong
So just leave me alone

I've got a right to be wrong
See my mistakes will make me strong
I'm stepping out into the great unknown
I'm feeling wings though I've never flown
I've got a mind of my own
Flesh and blood to the bone
See I'm not made of stone
I've got a right to be wrong
So just leave me alone

I've got a right to be wrong
I've been held down too long
I've got to break free
So I can finally breathe
I've got a right to be wrong
I got to sing my own song
I might be singing out of key
But it sure feels good to me
I've got a right to be wrong
To be wrong
So just leave me alone
Just leave me alone
I’ve got a right to be wrong
I’ve got a right to be wrong

The High Road
Joss Stone
We're bound to wait all night
She's bound to run amok
Invested enough in it anyhow
To each his own
The garden needs sorting out
She curls her lips on the bow
And I don't know if I'm dead or not
To anyone

Come on and get the minimum
Before you open up your eyes
This army has so many heads
To analyze
Come on and get your overdose
Collect it at the borderline
And they want to get up in your head
'Cause they know and so do I
The high road is hard to find
A detour in your new life
Tell all of your friends goodbye

The dawn to end all nights
That's all we hoped it was
A break from the warfare in your house
To each his own
A soldier is bailing out
He curled his lips around the barrel
And I don't know if the dead can talk
To anyone

Come on and get the minimum
Before you open up your eyes
This army has so many hands
Are you one of us
Come on and get your overdose
Collected at the borderline
And they want to get up in your head
In your head
In your head
'Cause they know and so do I
So do I
The high road is hard to find
Is hard to find
A detour in your new life
Tell all of your friends goodbye
Tell all of your friends goodbye
Tell 'em goodbye
Tell 'em goodbye
Tell 'em
Tell 'em
Tell ‘em bye

It's too late to change your mind
You let loss
Be your guide
It's too late to change your mind
You let loss
Be your guide
It's too late
Too late baby
To go and change your mind right now
It’s too late to change your mind
Too late to change your mind
It’s too late to change your mind
It’s too late to change your mind

  1. Amazing how some of these artists perform, and yet you wonder the depths of their feelings, experienced or not? The last song reminds me of one of my old favorites from Carol King. Do you remember her?

  2. Why is it Britain produces more (and better) soul/blues singer than the US, where the style originated? I'm familiar with her work but not in the mood this morning to sit through two downbeat songs...

  4. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Karen!!! "And it's too late baby, now it's too late. Though we really did try to make it." Oh yeah, who could forget a Carole King song after they have heard her sing it?

I would hope that Joss wasn't singing that last song from her own personal experience. For it is about struggling with drug abuse, which does seem to plague blues artists to a very great extent. I don't know if this may be on account of how depressing their songs often are, but it makes sense (naturally-speaking, of course).

  5. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! It may have something to do with British society still being so rigidly repressed in comparison to our own. For what doesn't raise many eyebrows over here causes quite stir back there. I know that this is one of the main reasons for why British comedy is generally either very dry or totally off-the-wall, with little landing in-between.

  6. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! Yes, it can certainly serve as an anthem for the rebellious sort, which I believe was sung from her heart.
