Good, Bad and Ugly Ads

Since I have not been given much of a life, I watch an awful lot of television, which includes an awful lot of commercials.  Now, a “GOOD” ad is one that holds my attention and makes me want to at least learn more about the product or service it is for.  A “BAD” ad is one that quickly becomes nothing more than background noise when it cannot be skipped over.  “UGLY” ads are much worse.  For not only do they make we want to never see them again, they make me want to never have anything to do with the company that paid for them to be produced.  Of course, you may feel differently, but I sure wouldn’t say much about it around anyone with a lick of sense.  For I am, after all, an expert on such things—albeit only in my own mind!

  1. I'd have to say the commercials I dislike the most are locally produced car dealership commercials. A few can be funny, but in my area a Kia dealership uses a former local news reporter as a spokesperson.

That poor woman clearly hates what she is doing. She is forced to play the foil for the dealer who likes to think himself as a Bob Hope type.

My favorite commercial to date is the one where a dog bribes a guy with Doritos to stay quiet over the missing cat.

  2. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Beach Bum!!! Yeah, there are several of our local commercials that I would like to include in the "UGLY" category if I can find them on YouTube. Oh, I can't recall seeing that particular Doritos commercial, and I am most definitely looking for it to be included in the "GOOD" category, as with several of their older commercials.

  3. I've never seen that red bull commercial before. I like it.

  4. The Doritoes commercial should be on You Tube. Just remembered a commercial that drives me crazy. Those "male enhancement" commercials irritate the daylights out of me. Whether it is some pill or crazy device that I could not even begin to decribe the looks on the faces of the guys in those commerical border on the weird.

  5. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! I think it came out last year, and you probably missed it while you were in one of your crafty tizzies.

  6. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Beach Bum!!! Oh yeah, I already have several of those "male-enhancement" commercials on the list for the bad and ugly categories. By the way, when I mentioned you saying something about that Doritos commercial, my wife said that she has seen it and absolutely loves it. So, it will be on here when the time comes, and since I am not following any specific pattern yet, that might be sooner or later. (Welcome to my wife's world. LOL?)

  7. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! Yeah, there isn't any wondering what they were thinking. For it should be obvious that they weren't.

  8. There are currently two ads that I can't stand. One is the KIA dealership ads, they are all bad, but the current one is a spoof of The Wheel of Fortune and there is this ad about weight loss that is just as bad.

  9. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Janet!!! I am not sure if I have seen that particular Kia ad yet, but it sure sounds like an "ugly" one to me. Grrr, considering the fact that I have a weight problem my entire life and being so painfully aware of just ineffective 99.999999999999999999% of the weight loss programs really are, I don't think they can make a weight loss ad that I would like.

  10. LOVED the zebra/alligator cartoon. It is an excellent ad.

#2, 5 Hr, was too much like an infomercial. Totally boring.

I like the Joan Rivers ad. Funnee to "women of a certain age" and she's always irreverent.

  11. Thanks for stopping by, my dear California Girl!!! I actually like Joan Rivers (in small doses). Do you ever catch her "Fashion Police" show on E!? It was, however, on account of them making it look like an illegal drug transaction that made the ad so ugly to me. I am surprised that 50 Cent went along with it after how hard he has been trying to leave that life far behind.
