TFT: Darius Rucker

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world.  For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair while others will be quite obviously fervent rants of rebellion.  Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

It Won’t Be Like This For Long
Darius Rucker
He didn't have to wake up
He'd been up all night
Lyin’ there in bed and listenin’
To his newborn baby cry
He makes a pot of coffee
He splashes water on his face
His wife gives him a kiss
And says
It's gonna
Be okay

It won't be like this
For long
One day we'll look back laughin’
At the week we brought her home
This phase is gonna fly by
So baby
Just hold on
It won't be like this for long

Four years later
‘Bout 4:30
She's crawlin’ in their bed
And when he drops her off at pre-school
She's clingin’ to his leg
The teacher peels her off of him
He says
What can I do
She says
Now, don't you worry
This'll only last a week or two

It won't be like this
For long
One day soon you'll drop her off
And she won't even know you're gone
This phase is gonna fly by
If you can just hold on
It won't be like this for long

Someday soon she'll be a teenager
And at times
He'll think she hates him
And he'll walk her down the aisle
And raise her veil
But right now she's up and cryin'
And the truth is that he don't mind
As he kisses her goodnight
And she says her prayers

He lays down there beside her
‘Til her eyes are finally closed
And just watchin’ her it breaks his heart
'Cause he already knows

It won't be like this
For long
One day soon that little girl is gonna be
All grown up and gone
And this phase is gonna fly by
So he's tryin’ to hold on
It won't be like this for long
It won't be like this for long

This
Darius Rucker
Got a baby girl sleepin’ in my bedroom
And her mama laughin’ in my arms
There's the sound of rain on the rooftop
And the game's about to start
I don't really know how I got here
But I'm sure glad that I did
And it's crazy to think
That one little thing
Could've changed all of it
Maybe it didn't turn out
Like I planned
Maybe that's why I'm such
Such a lucky man

For every stoplight I didn't make
Every chance I did
Or I didn't take
All the nights I went too far
All the girls that broke my heart
All the doors that I had to close
All the things I knew
But I didn't know
Thank God for all I missed
'Cause it led me here to this

Like the girl that I loved in high school
Who said she could do better
Or that college I wanted to go to
'Til I got that letter
All the fights
And the tears
And the heartache
I thought I'd never get through
And the moment I almost gave up
All lead me here to you
I didn't understand it
Way back when
But sittin’ here right now
It all makes perfect sense

For every stoplight I didn't make
Every chance I did
Or I didn't take
All the nights I went too far
All the girls that broke my heart
All the doors that I had to close
All the things I knew
But I didn't know
Thank God for all I missed
'Cause it led me here to this

How I cried
When my mama passed away
But now I've got an angel
Lookin’ out for me today
So nothing's a mistake

For every stoplight I didn't make
Every chance I did
Or I didn't take
All the nights I went too far
All the girls that broke my heart
All the doors that I had to close
Everything I knew
But I didn't know
Thank God for all I missed
'Cause it led me here to this
Yeah
It led me here to this

  5. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! Yes, indeed, and he has a great sense of humor, as well. For I cracked up when hearing him tell about having to start a song over again during a concert on account of laughing too hard to continue after seeing Dan Patrick, who used to be a prominent part of ESPN and on at the beginning of the video for Hootie and The Blowfish's "Only Wanna Be With You," dancing like a madman with his shirt off in the crowd.
