Hootie vs. Charlie

Let Her Cry
Hootie and The Blowfish
She sits alone
By a lamppost
Tryin’ to find a thought
That's escaped her mind
She says
Dad's the one
I love the most
But Stipe's not far behind
She never lets me in
Only tell me where's she's been
When she's had too much to drink
I say that I don't care
I just run my hands
Through her dark hair
Then I pray to God
You gotta help me fly away

And just
Let her cry
If the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing
If it eases all her pain
Let her go
Let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be
Let her be

This mornin’
I woke up alone
Found a note
Standin’ by the phone
Sayin’ baby
Maybe I'll be back someday
I wanted to look for you
You walked in
I didn't know
Just what I should do
So I
Sat back down
And had a beer
And felt sorry for myself

Sayin’
Let her cry
If the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing
If it eases all her pain
Let her go
Let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be
Oh ooh

 Last night
I tried to leave
Cried so much
I just could not believe
She was the same girl
I fell in love with long ago
She went in the back
To get high
I sat down on my couch
And cried
Yellin’
Oh mama please
Help me
Won't you hold my hand

And
Let her cry
If the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing
If it eases all her pain
Let her go
Let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be
Let her cry
If the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing
If it eases all her pain
Let her go
Let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be
Oh
Let her be

Let Her Cry
The Charlie Daniels Band
She never lets me in
Only tells me where she's been
When she's had too much to drink
Then I say that I don't care now
Run my fingers through her long hair
Then I pray to God
You gotta help me fly away
This mornin' I woke up alone
Found a note standin' by the phone
Sayin'
Baby, I'll be back someday
I wanted to look for you
You walked in
I didn't know what I should do
I sat back down
Had a beer
Felt sorry for myself

Said
Let her cry
If the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing
If it eases all her pain
And let her go
Let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be

Last night
I tried to leave
I cried so much
I could not believe
She was the same girl
I fell in love with long ago
After she said goodbye
Sit back down on my couch
And cried
Yellin’
Oh mama
Won't you come
And help me
Won't you come
And hold my hand

Let her cry
If the tears fall down like rain
Let her sing
If it eases all her pain
Let her go
If she walks right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be
Oh
Let her cry
If the tears fall down like rain
And let her sing
If it eases all her pain
Let her go
Even if she walks right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
Let her be
Just let her be

  1. I liked both. A great idea of yours, to allow a guest post from someone musical.

  2. I thought the difference in lyrics was interesting - If I never heard this song again by anyone it would be okay. I find the lyrics awkward but the chorus is catchy....

  6. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! I actually like Hootie's the best, but Charlie did a good job with the song.

  7. Dear Adullamite: You don't know me well enough to be throwing around the "b" word - that is inappropriate. And insulting to both me and Jerry...

  8. It is really hard on us kids when you two fuss.

  9. I am very disappointed in you right now, my dear Adullamite. For here is an opportunity to give some indication of our Heavenly Father really being at work in and through you, but you don't want to have any part in it.
