Sunday Morning Comin’ Down
Johnny Cash & Kris Kristofferson
Well I woke up
Sunday mornin’
With no way to hold
my head
That didn’t hurt
And the beer I had
for breakfast wasn’t bad
So I had one more
for dessert
Then I fumbled through
my closet for my clothes
And found my
cleanest dirty shirt
Then I washed my
face
And combed my hair
And stumbled down
the stairs
To meet the day
I’d smoked my brain
the night before
On cigarettes
And the songs I’d
been pickin’
But I lit my first
and watched a small kid
Cussin’ a can that
he was kickin’
Then I crossed the empty
street
And caught the
Sunday smell of someone fryin’ chicken
And it took me back
to somethin’
That I’d lost somehow
Somewhere
Along the way
On a Sunday mornin’
sidewalk
Wishin’ Lord
I was stoned
‘Cause there’s
somethin’ in a Sunday
That makes a body
feel alone
And there’s nothin’
short of dyin’
That’s half as
lonesome as the sound
Of a sleepin’ city
sidewalk
And Sunday mornin’
comin’ down
In the park I saw a
daddy
With a laughin’ little
girl
Who he was swingin’
And I stopped
beside a Sunday school
And listened to the
songs they were singin’
Then I headed back for
home
And somewhere far
away a lonely bell was ringin’
And it echoed
through the canyon
Like a disappearin’
dream of yesterday
On a Sunday mornin’
sidewalk
Wishin’ Lord
I was stoned
‘Cause there’s
somethin’ in a Sunday
That makes a body
feel alone
And there’s nothin’
short of dyin’
That’s half as
lonesome as the sound
Of a sleepin’ city
sidewalk
And Sunday mornin’
comin’ down

Most excellent- Great favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! Just a couple more weeks. Do you know if YouTube has any disco hits?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! That song came to hit very close to home to me. Way too close. Although, holidays were a thousand times worse than Sunday mornings.
ReplyDeleteLove it - gosh we are all aging - just saw KK in a movie - the whale movie - he is so old looking! sandie
ReplyDeleteHavent seen old Kris in ages.
ReplyDeleteLove these two guys. I was just listening to a radio show last night with Johnny Cash's son. He has written a book about his dad. I guess the book is loaded with old pictures and things that John wrote. Can't remember the title but I'm sure it's easy to find online.
ReplyDeleteI just loved this!!! Thank you. I will be back and hope that you will visit my blog too. Thank you and blessings, Catherine
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Sandie!!! Quite honestly, I think Kris looks about the same as he always has, which is old.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! The opening page to his site sure caught me by surprise.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Ginnymo!!! I am really glad you liked this. I can't imagine how that book wouldn't be a best-seller.

ReplyDeleteNO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! How about some Sex Pistols and other hooligan classics?
ReplyDeleteI think 'Sex Pistols' may give Grace and others a heart attack.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, my dear Adullamite. For the more I learn about Grace, the more it seems possible that she may have been one of the band's groupies. (Not in a bad way, of course.)
