TWO FOR TUESDAY

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

In Your Eyes
Peter Gabriel
Love
I get so lost
Sometimes
Days pass
And this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I choose
I come back to the place you are

All my instincts
They return
And the grand façade
So soon will burn
Without a noise
Without my pride
I’ll reach out
From the inside

In your eyes
The light
The heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
The resolution
Of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light
And the heat
In your eyes
Oh I want to be
That complete
I want to touch
The light
The heat
I see
In your eyes

Love
I don’t like to see so much pain
So much wasted
And this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired
Of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you
To keep me awake and alive

And all my instincts
They return
And the grand façade
So soon will burn
Without a noise
Without my pride
I’ll reach out
From the inside

In your eyes
The light
The heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
The resolution
Of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light
And the heat
In your eyes
Oh I want to be
That complete
I want to touch
The light
The heat
I see
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes

Accepting all
That I don’t understand
I want to stop
And start again
‘Til there’s nothing left out
Of all that remains there
In your eyes
Whatever comes and goes
Oh what’s
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes
In your eyes

Solsbury Hill
Peter Gabriel
Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Winding was blowing
Time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close
I heard a voice
Standing
Stretching every nerve
Had to listen
Had no choice
I did not believe the information
I just had to trust imagination
My heart going
Boom
Boom
Boom
Son
He said
Grab your things
I’ve come to take you home

To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut
So I went from day to day
Thought my life was in a rut
‘Til I thought of what I’d say
Which connection I should cut
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going
Boom
Boom
Boom
Hey
He said
Grab your things
I’ve come to take you home

Yeah
Back home

When illusion spins her net
I’m never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free
Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me
Today I don’t need a replacement
I’ll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going
Boom
Boom
Boom
Hey
I said
You can keep my things
They’ve come to take me home

  1. I'll confess I did not listen to the videos. The first song I know and like. The second one I can't recall but I read the lyrics and I really like them.

  2. Hi FishHawk, I warmly congratulate you for this beautiful songs of Peter Gabriel. I believe that Solsbury Hill is one of the best songs by Peter Gabriel. Of course I preferred along with Genesis. I saw Peter Gabriel live in the mid-80s, in Italy, and when he sang Solsbury Hill, all the people inside the stadium, they sang. A unique experience. thanks

  3. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! When you are the mood for catchy little tune, give "Solsbury Hill" a try. It might be different for you, but it reminds me of some of the songs that Paul Simon recorded during his heyday after the break-up of Simon & Garfunkel.

  4. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear David!!! The song literally stopped me in my tracks the first time I can remember ever hearing it. For that came during the time when our Heavenly Father was first making me acutely aware of Him being involved in more than just what is generally considered to be Christian music, and the part about the eagle telling him to grab his things because it was time for him to go home resonated to the very depths of my soul. Another line about doors being shut if he started talking about what he had experienced also hit home real hard.

  5. This man is to blame for inflicting Phil Collins upon us, if only Gabriel hadn't left Genesis then Collins would have stayed the anonymous drummer he was born to be!?!?

  6. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ryan!!! So, you probably won't like what is scheduled for next week--huh?

  7. Peter Gabriel wrote some very amazing material. His "So" album is remarkable (from which "Your eyes" comes from.) There are certain artist/albums that, to me, are just sort of a high point that the artist never seems to hit ever again (such as U2 and "Joshua Tree")

  8. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Rob!!! I now better understand why Peter Gabriel has been so ridiculed. For a great deal of his lyrics obviously come straight from our Heavenly Father, and what is of Him is naturally considered to be foolishness.
