ATF: Paul and Art

This series will include as many of my all-time favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make.  For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

Mother and Child Reunion
Paul Simon
No I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away

Oh
Little darling of mine
I can't for the life of me
Remember a sadder day
I know they say let it be
But it just don't work out that way
And the course of the lifetimes runs
Over and over again

No I would not give you false hope
No
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away

Oh
Little darling of mine
I just can't believe it's so
Though it seems strange to say
I never been laid so low
In such a mysterious way
And the course of a lifetime runs
Over and over again

But I would not give you false hope
No
On this strange and mournful day
When the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away
Oh
The mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away
Oh the mother and child reunion
Is only a moment away
Away
Away
Away
Oh oh
Oh
The mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away
Oh
Oh the mother and child reunion
Is only a moment away
Oh oh
Oh
The mother and child reunion
Oh
Is only a motion away
Oh the mother and child reunion
Is only a moment away

All I Know
Art Garfunkel
I bruise you
You bruise me
We both bruise
Too easily
Too easily
To let it show
I love you
And that's all I know

All my plans
Have fallen through
All my plans
Depend on you
Depend on you
To help them grow
I love you
And that's all I know

When the singer's gone
Let the song go on

But the ending always
Comes at last
Endings always
Come too fast
They come too fast
But they pass too slow
I love you
And that's all I know

When the singer's gone
Let the song go on
It's a fine line between
The darkness
And the dawn
They say in the darkest night
There's a light beyond

But the ending always
Comes at last
Endings always
Come too fast
They come too fast
But they pass too slow
I love you
And that's
All
I know
That's all I know
That's all I know

  4. Always loved that song by Art Garfunkel.

I actually met a distant relative of his once. I was running a cash register at a department store and needed to ask for the man's ID. Since Garfunkel isn't a very common name -- to say the least -- I asked if he was a relative, and he was.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Silver Fox!!! That is really cool about your meeting one of his relatives. I meet Jerry Reed in person back in the summer of '85, but I didn't realize that it was him until way later. Sigh.

  5. Wonderful! Wonderful! They will never be duplicated...both are unique unto themselves...and they were unique as a duo/partnership.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Boromax!!! That is basically the standard for becoming one of my all-time favorites. For if I can hear a song over and over again without getting too tired of it, it becomes an all-time favorite--regardless of how well it charted.

    2. How can we help but have our own personal "charts"? But I do have difficulty when someone asks me to narrow it down to just one favorite. I cannot do it. I have a long list of favorites; and I do not think there is any single song that has beaten out all the others to be that one.

    3. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Boromax!!! I have around 15 in a tie for the number one spot, with far more being a very close second. Subsequently, I would be in constant turmoil over why one was considered better than another. So, I decided against having a count-down for this series. Alas, it could be argued that I am a rather indecisive person--especially when it comes to music. For I have over 100 more to add to this series before starting to repeat.
