This series will include as many of my all-time
favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak). Now, each one included in each edition will
have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination,
but they will not be numbered. For I
just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others. So, this will not be a countdown, but if you
are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter. Besides, with no countdown, this could go on
forever and ever! Oh, and despite the
fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite
as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make. For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by
nature.

In the Year 2525
Zager and Evans
In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth
Tell no lies
Everything you think
Do
And say
Is in the pill
You took today
In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth
Won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing chew
Nobody's gonna look at you
In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs got nothing to do
Some machine is doing that for you
In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband
Won't need no wife
You'll pick your son
Pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube
Whoa oh whoa
In the year 7510
If God's a-comin'
He ought to make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
Guess it's time for the Judgement Day
In the year 8510
God is gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down
And start again
Whoa oh whoa
In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing
Whoa oh whoa
Now it's been 10,000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through the eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday
In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find
In the year 3535…

One Toke Over the Line
Brewer and Shipley
One toke over the line sweet Jesus
One toke over the line
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over the line
Awaitin' for the train that goes home sweet Mary
Hopin' that the train is on time
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over the line
Whoooo do you love
I hope it's me
I've been a-changin'
As you can plainly see
I felt the joy and I learned about the pain
That my momma said
If I should choose to make a part of me
Surely strike me dead
Now I'm
One toke over the line sweet Jesus
One toke over the line
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over the line
I'm waitin' for the train that goes home sweet Mary
Hopin' that the train is on time
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over the line
I sail away
A country mile
Now I'm returnin'
Showin' off a smile
I met all the girls
And loved myself a few
Ended by surprise
Like everything else
I've been through
It opened up my eyes
And now I'm
One toke over the line sweet Jesus
One toke over the line
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
Don't you just know I’m
Waitin' for the train that goes home sweet Mary
Hopin' that the train is on time
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over the line
Don't you just know I’m
Waitin' for the train that goes home sweet Mary
Hopin' that the train is on time
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over the line
I want to be
One toke over the line sweet Jesus
One toke over the line
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over the line
Don't you just know I’m
Waitin' for the train that goes home sweet Mary
Hopin' that the train is on time
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over the line
Sittin' downtown in a railway station
One toke over line
One toke
One toke over the line

It's ages since I've heard either of these two, too! :) And it's nice to hear them again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! I believed that it was Simon & Garfunkel singing 2525 for longer than I would like to admit to. Sigh.
DeleteZager and Evans definitely not S&G.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Adullamite!!! Yeah, I finally found that out.
DeleteHaven't heard of those people, but the first lot of words I seem to know....
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Whiteangel!!! 2525 was a big hit here in '69, and I think it was their only one. Brewer and Shipley were fairly big here in the early '70s.
DeleteI always though "In the Year 2525" a hauntingly beautiful song, ominous and as it turns out-----prophetic.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Stephen!!! Prophetic, indeed.
DeleteI simply LoVe me the first one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Shadow!!! This makes me very happy.
DeleteI considered skipping this post since it was Simon and Garfunkel :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! Okay...I think. (LOL?)
DeleteI was a dutiful young fan of Zager & Evans' one hit; but I was an avid fan of Brewer & Shipley, far beyond their oft-played "One Toke..." Had several of their LPs and enjoyed many tracks that never aired on any radio I was hearing; e.g., "Message from the Mission," "Sweet Love," and "Fly Fly Fly"; none of which I could find on YouTube or I would have linked them for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Boromax!!! I never caught onto Brewer & Shipley back in the day. Although, I do like their style, and it sounds like I missed out on a lot.
