This series will include as many of my all-time
favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak). Now, each one included in each edition will
have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination,
but they will not be numbered. For I
just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others. So, this will not be a countdown, but if you
are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter. Besides, with no countdown, this could go on
forever and ever! Oh, and despite the
fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite
as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make. For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by
nature.

Hard Luck Woman
KISS
If never I met you
I'd never have seen you cry
If not for our first hello
We'd never have to say goodbye
If never I held you
My feelin's would never show
It's time I start walkin'
But there's so much you'll never know
I keep telling you
Hard luck woman
You ain't a
Hard luck woman
Rags
The sailor's only daughter
A child of the water
Too proud to be a queen
Rags
I really love ya
I can't forget about ya
You'll be a
Hard luck woman
Baby ‘til you find your man
Before I go let me kiss you
And wipe the tears from your eyes
I don't wanna hurt you girl
You know I could never lie
I keep telling you
Hard luck woman
You ain't a
Hard luck woman
You'll be a
Hard luck woman
Baby ‘til you find your man
Rags
The sailor's only daughter
A child of the water
Too proud to be a queen
Rags
I really love ya
I can't forget about ya
You'll be a
Hard luck woman
Baby ‘til you find your man
You'll be a
Hard luck woman
Baby ‘til you find your man
Oh yeah
Bye bye
So long
Don't cry
I'm just packin' my bags
Whoa
Leavin' you
Bye bye
Bye bye
Bye bye baby
Don't cry
I gotta keep on movin'
Yeah
Movin'
Bye, bye my bab
Ooh
Don't cry lady
Oh

If It Makes You Happy
Sheryl Crow
I belong
A long way from here
Put on a poncho
Played for mosquitos
And drank ‘til I was thirsty again
We went searchin’
Through thrift store jungles
Found Geronimo's rifle
Marilyn's shampoo
And Benny Goodman's corset and pen
Well okay
I made this up
I promised you I'd never give up
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad
You get down
Real low down
You listen to Coltrane
Derail your own train
Well who hasn't been there before
I come round
Around the hard way
Bring you comics in bed
Scrape the mold off the bread
And serve you French toast again
Well okay
I still get stoned
I'm not the kind of girl you'd take home
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad
We've been far
Far away from here
Put on a poncho
Played for mosquitos
And everywhere in between
Well okay
We get along
So what if right now everything's wrong
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy…

I like the lyrics to the Sheryl Crow song
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! If I remember right, the first time I heard the song was over the radio while I was north of Syracuse and headed for Canton, New York to pick up a load of yogurt at the Kraft plant there, and my reaction was, "Whoa." It being in the middle of a very dark night with hardly anyone else out on that road at the time certainly added to the impact of the song.
DeleteI've always like KISS...great stuff...foot-stomping, heart-pounding.
ReplyDeleteCrow certainly has her place, too...a good place. :)
Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! I was quite shocked when I first discovered that Hard Luck Woman was by KISS way back when. For the song has a definite country music sound that was way ahead of what can be commonly heard on country stations the past few years, as Garth Brooks demonstrated when coming out with a remake of the song around 10 years ago (I think). For if anything, Garth's version was a little more rocked-out than their original version.
DeleteCould never get into Kiss. Like the Sheryl Crow number - and I can see why a midnight trip to fetch yogurt would make it particularly poignant.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Mike!!! Yeah, the relative desolation of the countryside not far south of the Canadian border certainly added to the darkness of the song. I had a similar experience with Joey by Concrete Blonde a few years before. Although, I do not remember where I was at the time.

I like Crow, but I was never a Kiss fan.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Stephen!!! I have never been as big of a KISS fan as I probably should have.
DeleteNot a fan of Kiss.
ReplyDeleteSheryl Crow, have heard the name...but don't recall hearing her sign....
Thanks for stopping by, my dear Whiteangel!!! Sheryl Crow made a fairly big splash here in the 90s, and has maintained a good following since. She was born and raised in the boot heel area of the state of Missouri around 75 miles northeast of where I was born (a little over four years before) in Newport, Arkansas.
DeleteDear Jerry, KISS had some great songs!! Blessings, Catherine
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Catherine!!! They did indeed.
DeleteShe makes me happy, always have enjoyed her music!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Karen!!! Sheryl is scheduled to have at least one more in this series later on.
