ATF: 18

This weekly series will include as many of my all-time favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make.  For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

I’m Eighteen
Alice Cooper
Lines form
On my face and hands
Lines form
From the ups and downs
I'm in the middle
Without any plans
I'm a boy
And I'm a man

I'm eighteen
And I don't know what I want
Eighteen
I just don't know what I want
Eighteen
I gotta get away
I gotta get out of this place
I'll go runnin’ in outer space
Oh yeah

I’ve got a
Baby's brain
And an old man's heart
Took eighteen years
To get this far
Don't always know what I'm talkin' about
Feels like I'm livin’ in the middle of doubt
‘Cause

I'm Eighteen
I get confused every day
Eighteen
I just don't know what to say
Eighteen
I gotta get away

Whoa
Lines form
On my face and my hands
Lines form
On the left and right
I'm in the middle
The middle of life
I'm a boy
And I'm a man

I'm eighteen
And I like it
Yes I like it
Oh I like it
Love it
Like it
Love it
Eighteen
Eighteen
Eighteen
Eighteen
And I like it

18 and Life
Skid Row
Ricky was a young boy
He had a heart of stone
Lived 9 to 5
And he worked his fingers to the bone
Just barely get out of school
Came from the edge of town
Fought like a switchblade
So no one could take him down
Oh no
He had no money
No
No good at home
He walked the streets as soldier
And he fought the world alone

And now it's
18 and life
You got it
18 and life
You know
Your crime is time
And it's 18
And life to go
18 and life
You got it
18 and life
You know
Your crime is time
And it's 18
And life to go

Tequila in his heartbeat
His veins burned gasoline
He kept his motor runnin’
But it never kept it clean
They say he loved adventure
Ricky's the wild one
He married trouble
And had a courtship with a gun
Bang bang
Shoot 'em up
The party never ends
You can't think of dyin’
When the bottle's your best friend

And now it's
18 and life
You got it
18 and life
You know
Your crime is time
And it's 18
And life to go
18 and life
You got it
18 and life
You know
Your crime is time
And it's 18
And life to go
Yeah

Accidents will happen
They all heard Ricky say
He fired his six-shot to the wind
That child blew a child away

Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

18 and life
You got it
18 and life
You know
Your crime is time
And it's 18
And life to go
18 and life
You got it
18 and life
You know
Your crime is time
And it's 18
And life to go
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah yeah
Whoa
Whoa
Whoa

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Catherine!!! I wonder what Frank Sinatra would think of his music being mentioned in the same breath as Alice Cooper's... (LOL?)

  3. I've never paid much attention to either of these groups, but the lyrics are rather interesting.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Stephen!!! I don't remember what year it was (1973?) but I can clearly remember looking at albums at a Katz Department Store in Springfield, Missouri and discovering that Alice Cooper was a guy. Be assured that it came as a very great shock to me at the time, and I am not quite sure if I have fully recovered yet.

  4. Skid Row, I don't know...and like Stephen Hayes...I was never a big fan or listener to Alice Cooper.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! There is only one other Skid Row song that I truly love, with most of their music being way beyond what I can stand much of the time.

  5. Hey there! Back in the day of the fabulous 70's, Alice Cooper was my idol. I owned every album, poster, book, magazine article him. His songs were so meaningful to me and I admired his guts. I love that he's in his 60's and still rockin' out and performing on stage. I'm 18 was an epic song for many teens. As for Skid Row, that song was really an eye opener. Great video and Sebastian Bach totally rocks. Even now!! Great post.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Barb!!! "I Remember You" is the other Skid Row song I truly love. Quite sadly, Sebastian almost completely self-destructed due to alcoholism. I sure hope he is getting better. By the way, you might like my older piece on my Uncle Alice, which includes some goodies from others.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Shadow!!! Brace yourself for a couple genuine gut-wrenchers this week (9/25). Be assured that I do not relish such sentiments, but as you are all too painfully aware of, their significance should not be ignored.
