Come Monday...Warriors

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of (or commentary about) websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

Well, I feel like I need to explain some things at the very start of this.  For most of you know me as being a most manly man, and manly men do not generally celebrate the fairer sex for things other than having the potential to be dynamite in the sack and actually being dynamite in the sack, as well as being great at cooking and cleaning house.  Whereas, this piece will not be touching upon any of those things.

Yeah, I know, ‘tis a great shock to the senses.  For this piece is going to be about how much respect I have for the likes of [Mo’ne Davis] and the characters played by [Debra Messing] and [Tea Leoni] in their new television series.

Okay, the absolute truth of the matter truly is that I find both Debra Messing and Tea Leoni HIGHLY attractive in a physical sense, but I would like to focus upon the character of the characters they are now playing here.  This should keep me out of trouble with Arlynda—right?

My days as a leader of manly men may be drawing to a close, however.  For I have never been opposed to girls/women being allowed to do anything they can truly do, and Mo’ne Davis can flat-out pitch a baseball.  So, there should not be any obstacles to her moving on to play high school baseball (with and against boys) if she chooses to, but it is my understanding that she dreams of someday playing big-time college basketball on the [UConn] women’s team.  Oh, and aside from being a great athlete, little Miss Mo’ne acquitted herself splendidly during press conferences at the last Little League World Series, which indicates to me that she is a great person, as well.

The same can be said of Laura, and if there are any doubts of Debra Messing being a consummate professional when it comes to acting, her role in [The Mysteries of Laura] should put it to rest.  For she is constantly being subjected to rather humiliating situations.

Yeah, her appearing on camera like that made me rethink just how attractive I find her, but some of you may applaud her courage.  There is something seriously wrong with those who do, though.

Aside from scenes like that, Arlynda and I have both enjoyed the first two episodes of the show.  The pilot episode tried too hard to be humorous much of the time for my taste, but the second episode was more palatable.

The show should be a big hit to both sexes just on account of highlighting just how [catty] women can be in certain situations.  Of course, I suppose snooty women would find that rather off-putting.

Be assured that there is nothing catty about Tea Leoni’s character on [Madam Secretary].  For she goes about performing her duties with great grace and dignity, and I especially appreciate her leaning quite heavily upon the support of her husband, with them appearing to have a truly equal partnership in their marriage.

No, the significance of Tea looking like Hillary Clinton (although a MUCH more smoking hot version) while doing her old job as the United States Secretary of State on the eve of the next presidential election season is not lost on me.  It is still a show well worth watching unless you have too many tea parties to attend to.

Now, do you think ending this with a great song might help smooth any feathers I may have ruffled?  Alas, I am going to give it a try.

A Sunday Drive

Back during our childhood, our parents would often load up my brother and me after Sunday morning church services for a leisurely drive around where we lived.  Even though we were seeing mostly familiar sights, it was still good to see them again, and this is why “A Sunday Drive” sounded about right for the name of a series revisiting familiar sites that are well worth seeing again and again.  The link below the image is to the site itself, and the image is linked to the post it was first included in here.

Saturday Morning Cartoons (+)

No, it is not that I am in the midst of experiencing a second or third childhood.  For it is arguable that I have never really grown up because of my march toward maturity being interrupted along the way by some episodes of arrested development.  So, instead of thinking that this series is meant as a wistful look back upon a simpler time, think of it as being a rather simplistic mind remaining in a moment for an extended period of time.  In any event, I hope you find it enjoyable.

ATF: Youthful Indiscretions

This weekly series will include as many of my all-time favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make.  For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

Come Monday...Jack Ma and Forrest Gump

If you were watching CNBC last Friday during the day, you watched quite an event being broadcast live.  For the time for the much-anticipated IPO [Initial Public Offering] of stock for the [Alibaba Group] was at hand.

Now, I am not about to tell you what [Alibaba] is all about.  For I do not understand all that much about it, but I can tell you that it reportedly has something or another to do with 85% of all Chinese e-commerce at this time, which makes the conglomerlate a very big deal the world over.

Further proof of Alibaba being a very big deal the world over can be found in the fact that reportedly 100 million shares of its stock traded hands in the first 10 minutes of trading, which adds up to over 9.4 billion dollars changing hands (so to speak) with the price of each share jumping from $68.00 to over $97.00 in the first couple of minutes or so.  Of course, my figurin’ ain’t always all that accurate since my trusty old solar-powered Casio calculator done went and died on me a few years back, along with me never being much of a hand with an abacus.

What I can tell you about Alibaba is that it is being promoted as the online place to go if you have idea for a product or business service.  For they will not only help you connect with buyers and sellers, they will also help you find raw materials, a manufacturer and even funding for your project!

Yeah, it almost sounds too good to be true, but if you take a listen to what [Jack Ma] has to say, you just might become a believer.  Be assured that he made quite an impression upon me, and it was a very good one, too!

Jack Ma is the chief executive officer of Alibaba, and the vision he has for the company is truly wonderful.  For he wants to help others be successful—not rule over a business empire that crushes all who dare to stand in its way.

In some regards, he may be a lot more like his hero than he thinks.  For [Forrest Gump] is his hero on account of remaining true to himself despite whatever was happening around him.  For what I saw in the movie character was someone totally oblivious to what was happening around him, and I think Mr. Ma may be a little oblivious to the great threat of Chinese politics destroying all of the good he wants to achieve.  After all, with a simple change of the political wind in China, Alibaba becomes totally nationalized while leaving outside customers and investors with little—if anything at all.

Yeah, I suppose the same thing could happen even here, but there is a history to sudden shifts in policy toward business ventures in China.  Be assured that I am hoping Jack Ma and all others like him will win the war for the benefit of us all.
