Badfinger vs. Harry Nilsson

 Link: [Badfinger]

Without You
Badfinger
Well I can’t
Forget this evenin’
And your face
When you were leavin’
But I guess that’s just the way
The story goes
You always smile
But in your eyes
Your sorrow shows
Yes it shows

Well I can’t
Forget tomorrow
When I think
Of all my sorrow
I had you there
But then I let you go
And now it’s only fair
That I should let you know
What you should know

I can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t live anymore
I can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore

Well I can’t
Forget this evenin’
And your face
When you were leavin’
But I guess that’s just the way
The story goes
You always smile
But in your eyes
Your sorrow shows
Yes it shows

I can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore
I can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore
I can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore
I can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore
I can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore
I can’t live
Oh no
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore
I can’t live
Oh no no
If livin’ is without you

Without You
Harry Nilsson
No I can’t
Forget this evening
Or your face
As you were leaving
But I guess that’s just the way
The story goes
You always smile
But in your eyes
Your sorrow shows
Yes it shows

No I can’t
Forget tomorrow
When I think
Of all my sorrow
When I had you there
But then I let you go
And now it’s only fair
That I should let you know
What you should know

I can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore
I can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t give
I can’t give anymore

Well I can’t
Forget this evening
Or your face
As you were leaving
But I guess that’s just the way
The story goes
You always smile
But in your eyes
Your sorrow shows
Yes it shows

Can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore
I can’t live
If livin’ is without you
I can’t live
I can’t give anymore

If livin’ is without you

  1. Oh, no contest...Nilsson. His is the voice that I hear whenever I think of this song. Some covers are better that the original. I don't like the way Bad Finger interpreted the song. Nilsson pulls you into the song with his emotions. By the way, thanks...I love that song. Sappy as it is, but it was the early 70s.

  2. If I had to pick one I'd agree with clueless and choose Nilsson. 1st I'd heard of either, must've been before my time. Here's a wee idea from Scotland for a future Versus 'Clanadonia' v 'Albannach'. Check them out.

  4. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Clueless!!! I had no idea that this was actually a Badfinger song that Nilsson covered until I started looking for songs by him. For I always thought it was all his, and he most definitely made it his own by doing a much better job with it.

Back during Season 1 of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson sang the song, and Simon had her do it again the next night. For she did an absolutely miserable job the first time, with absolutely no emotional connection to the song whatsoever. The second time, she did much better, and wound up being the winner.

  8. I always thought this a Nilsson song. Crap by Badfinger, not their style at all.
Clanadonia and Albannach, hmmm not quite what you are used to...

  10. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! I actually truly love Celtic(?) music, but I like Dougie MacLean's version of "The Gael" a LOT more than I do either Clanadonia's or Albannach's.

However, my absolute favorite version is the one from the movie, The Last of the Mohicans. Ironically, it seems to embody all of the pain and suffering that I have had to endure in this world, and yet, I wish the song would never end. The following link is to a video with a much too short snippet of the song.
