TWO FOR TUESDAY

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

Puff The Magic Dragon
Peter, Paul and Mary
Oh Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land call Honahly
Little Jackie Paper
Loved that rascal Puff
And brought him strings
And sealing wax
And other fancy stuff

Oh Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honahly
Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land call Honahly

Together
They would travel
On a boat with billowed sail
And Jackie kept a lookout perched
On Puff’s gigantic tail
Noble kings and princes
Would bow whenever they came
Pirate ships would lower their flags
When Puff roared out his name

Oh Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honahly
Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land call Honahly

A dragon lives forever
But not so little boys
Painted wings
And giant rings
Make way for other toys
One grey night it happened
Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff
That mighty dragon
He ceased his fearless roar
His head was bent in sorrow
Green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play
Along the cherry lane
Without his life-long friend
Puff could not be brave
So Puff
That mighty dragon
Sadly slipped into his cave

Oh Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honahly
Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land call Honahly

Jane Jane
Peter, Paul and Mary
Hey hey
Jane Jane
My Lord and Lord
Jane Jane
I’m gonna buy
Jane Jane
Three Mockin’ birds
Jane Jane
One for to whistle
Jane Jane
One for to sing
Jane Jane
One for to do
Jane Jane
Most any little thing

Children go where I send thee
How shall I send thee
Hey hey
My Lord and Lord

Well I’m gonna send thee
Three by three
Three for the Hebrew Children
Tow for the Paul and Silas
One for the little-bitty baby
That’s born
Born
Born in Bethlehem

Hey Hey
My Lord and Lord
I’m gonna buy
Three huntin’ dogs
One for to run
One for to shout
One for to talk to
When I go out

Children go where I send thee
How shall I send thee
Hey hey
My Lord and Lord

Well I’m gonna send thee
Six by six
Six for the six
That never got fixed
Five for the five
That stayed alive
Four for the four
That stood at the door
Three for the Hebrew children
Two for the Paul and Silas
One for the little-bitty baby
That’s born
Born
Born in Bethlehem

Hey hey
My Lord and Lord
I’m gonna buy
Three muley cows
One for to milk
One to plow my corn
One for to pray
On Christmas morn

Children go where I send thee
How shall I send thee
Hey hey
My Lord and Lord

Well I’m gonna send thee
Nine by nine
Nine for the nine
That dressed so fine
Eight for the eight
That stood at the gate
Seven for the seven
That came from Heaven
Six for the six
That never got fixed
Five for the five
That stayed alive
Four for the four
That stood at the door
Three for the Hebrew children
Two for the Paul and Silas
One for the little-bitty baby
That’s born
Born
Born in Bethlehem

Hey hey
My Lord and Lord
I’m gonna buy
Jane Jane
Three little blue birds
Jane Jane
One for to weep
Jane Jane
One for to mourn
Jane Jane
One for to pray
Jane Jane
When I am gone

  1. We used to sing "Green Grow the Rushes Oh" which is similar to "Children Go" the only version of which that I know is by Joe and Eddie. Way better than PP&M.
http://youtu.be/UozDAfeEa-c. Joe and Eddie are the BEST. Check them out on youtube. Especially "There's A Meeting Here Tonight" Fabulous!

Any way the fun of "Green Grow the Rushes" is that you sing it faster and faster and by the time you are singing back from 12 everyone dissolves into giggles.

  4. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! I thought the chorus to "Jane Jane" sound very familiar, but the title didn't ring any bells. I'll check our Joe and Eddie. Thanks for telling me about them.

  5. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Sandie!!! Listening to Puff on the radio is one of my clearest memories of my childhood. Of course, I didn't realize that it is really a rather sad song, and I don't believe that it has anything to do with smoking pot, as some do.

  7. I grew up in a "singing" church and there are darn few hymns and gospel songs I don't know - none of the new ones of course - since I haven't belonged to a church in many years. I did work in one for a while a few years back, a very lovely Methodist church in Alexandria VA - good people they are. I grew up in the Hollis Avenue Congregational Church in Queens, NY. When I mentioned it to one of the ladies at the Methodist Church she said "Oh that's why you know so many hymns - they sing a lot" and Yes we did.

  9. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! I have never been to a Congregational Church, but it sure sounds like one that I would like to if I was able to get out and about.

  11. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! I wish I knew where Puff's cave is. For it makes me sad that he feels so neglected.
