Some Gave All

I normally do not recognize special days.  For one day has not been so different than another to me for several years now, but lately, I have been compelled to change that to a certain extent.  Therefore, the following is in recognition of the sacrifices that have been made to keep us free, and what it means to be free in this world.

Some Gave All
Billy Ray Cyrus
I knew a man
Called him Sandy Cane
Few folks even knew his name
But a hero
Yes was he
He left a boy
Came back a man
Still many
Just don’t understand
About the reasons we are free
I can’t forget
The look in his eyes
Or the tears he cried
As he said these words to me

All gave some
Some gave all
Some stood through
For the red white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties
And recall
Some gave all

Now Sandy Cane
Is no longer here
But his words are
Oh so clear
As they echo
Throughout our land
For all his friends
Who gave us all
Who stood the ground
And took the fall
To help their fellow man
Love your country
Live with pride
And don’t forget
Those who died
America
Can’t you see

All gave some
Some gave all
Some stood through
For the red white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties
And recall
Some gave all

And if you ever
Think of me
Think of all
Your liberties
And recall
Yes recall
Some gave all
Some gave all

Born Free
Kid Rock
Fast
On a rough road ridin’
High
Through the mountains climblin’
Twistin’
Turnin’
Further from my home
Young
Like a new moon risin’
Fierce
Through the rain and lightnin’
Wanderin’
Out into this
Great unknown

And I don’t want
No one to cry
But tell ‘em if
I don’t survive

I was born free
I was born free
I was born free
Born free

Free
Like a river ragin’
Strong
Is the wind I’m facin’
Chasin’ dreams
And racin’
Father time
Deep
Like the grandest canyon
Wild
Like an untamed stallion
If you can’t see my heart
You must be blind

You can knock me down
And watch me bleed
But you can’t keep
No chains on me

I was born free
I was born free
I was born free
Born free

And I’m not good
At a lot of good fights
But look down deep
Into my eyes
I was born free

Calm
Facin’ danger
Lost
Like an unknown stranger
Grateful for my time
With no regrets
Close
To my destination
Tired
Frail and achin’
Waitin’ patiently
For the sun to set

And when it’s done
Believe that I
Will yell it from
That mountain high

I was born free
I was born free
I was born free
Born free

I will bow
To the shinin’ sea
And celebrate
God’s grace on thee
I was born free
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa

Of course, there is a big difference between living free in this world and truly being free for all of eternity. For it truly is as it is written: To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus siad, "If you hold to my techings, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."  They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendents and have never been slaves to anyone.  How can you say that we shal be set free?"  Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.  Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.  So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. [John 8:31-36 NIV]

Alas, far too many do not understand that what they have was given to them, which certainly includes the freedoms that we Americans still enjoy. For it truly is as it is also written: For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not? [1 Corinthians 4:7 NIV]

No, none of this is meant to discount the personal sacrifices that so many have made on battlefields near and far, along with their loved ones suffering at home. Nonetheless, before any of us can truly be free, we must be willing to let go of our pride. For all who want to stand upon their own merits will be permitted to do so, come Judgment Day.

There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

  7. I too am grateful for all our current and past service men and women have given so that people like me can enjoy freedom.

I'm grateful that when I stand before God it will NOT be on my merits. Grateful for the shed blood of Jesus that covers my sin. Grateful for His grace and mercy that's been given to me.

  8. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Tracy!!! Thank you also for your wonderful testimony. Be assured that our Heavenly Father is well pleased, and great will be the reward of all who will but want to humble themselves before Him as you have.
