Come Monday...A Pittance Of Time

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about, websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is subject to change, however. In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while. For rants promote change, and change can be good—right? Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

Well, I was all set to publish the results of an investigation that I have been conducting, but it was suggested that they should be given a little more time to respond. For adding more to an already bad situation would not accomplish what I really want done.

What helped make that decision even clearer was being sent a link to an incredible song by none other than the cantankerous old coot, [Adullamite]. Yeah, I KNOW! For this means that there may very well some good in him after all…

Nah, somebody must have hacked his email account. Nonetheless, this doesn’t take anything away from what a great song A Pittance Of Time by [Terry Kelly] is.

Now, the uniforms in the video may not be all that familiar to you. For they are of the [Canadian Armed Forces], and they do not make the news as often as others do.

However, this does not mean that they should not be honored. For Canadian units have served with distinction in [numerous conflicts], including [World War I] and [World War II].

No, this is not meant to serve as a snub of our own American forces. For the song works just as well for them, and I will be posting another song and video that features American forces this coming Thursday, which is [Veterans Day].

A Pittance Of Time
Terry Kelly
Good morning, shoppers
At eleven o’clock
On this eleventh day of November
We would like to invite you
To share with us
Two minutes of silence
In honor of our veterans

They fought and some died
For their homeland
They fought and some died
Now it’s our land
Look at his little child
There’s no fear in her eyes
Could he not show respect
For other dads who have died

Take two minutes
Would you mind
It’s a pittance of time
For the boys and the girls
Who went over
In peace may they rest
May we never forget
Why they died
It’s a pittance of time

God forgive me for wanting
To strike him
Give me strength so as not
To be like him
My heart pounds in my breast
Fingers pressed to my lips
My throat wants to bawl out
My tongue barely resists

But two minutes
I will bide
It’s a pittance of time
For the boys and the girls
Who went over
In peace may they rest
May we never forget
Why they died
It’s a pittance of time

Read the letters and poems
Of the heroes at home
They have casualties
Battles
And fears of their own
There’s a price to be paid
If you go
If you stay
Freedom is fought for and won
In numerous ways

Take two minutes
Would you mind
It’s a pittance of time
For the boys and the girls
All over
May we never forget
Our young become vets
At the end of the line
It’s a pittance of time

It takes courage to fight
In your own war
It takes courage to fight
Someone else’s war
Our peacekeepers tell
Of their own living Hell
They bring hope to foreign lands
That hatemongers can’t kill

Take two minutes
Would you mind
It’s a pittance of time
For the boys and the girls
Who go over
In peacetime our best
Still don battle dress
And lay their lives on the line
It’s a pittance of time

In Peace may they rest
Lest we forget
Why they died
Take a pittance of time
