Come Monday...Are We Having "Fun" Yet?

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

Well, I suppose not. For the “fun” won’t actually start until after the final vote is tallied tomorrow, but with their tea pots whistling a merry little tune that only they can clearly hear, I am quite sure that many a tea partier (not really a proper word, but it should be) has already started to celebrate.

Please note the parentheses I have placed around “fun.” For they are meant to denote just the opposite of what the word normally means in this piece.

No, I not looking forward to the next two years. For after the Republicans take a huge chunk out of the Democratic majority in both the United States Senate and House of Representatives with the help of [Tea Party Movement], little is going to be accomplished.

Of course, that is considered a significant victory by many in the Tea Party ranks. For they are absolutely terrified of what they think President Obama and the Democratic Party wants to do, and just derailing that is plenty good enough for them.

Ah, but what about all of the problems we now have? “Two wrongs don’t make a right,” would be a typical answer given by a tea partier, and this is hard to argue with. For the main thing that I want to see from our leaders is the courage and conviction to get rid of as much of the incompetence and corruption as possible.

Therein lies the source of much of my current apathy. For I haven’t been shown anyone who is really serious about trying to clean up the mess. Oh, there are many who want to cut taxes and secure our borders, which does have some appeal, but throwing the baby out with the bathwater is never a good thing.

Alas, are we not getting the kind of leaders we now deserve? For even those who openly profess Christian beliefs are actually being governed by the law of the jungle.

No, that is not something that most in the Christian community would agree with, but how can it not be true when so many want to believe that they have actually earned what they have? For if they understood that ALL that they have was given to them by our Heavenly Father, they wouldn’t be so opposed to lending a helping hand to those in need—right?

Yes, there are Christian charities all over the place, but aren’t most of them based upon the premise that God only helps those who help themselves? So, where does that leave the ones who keep failing—despite how badly they want to do better?

Back before I was changed, I would have made a good member for the Tea Party. For I believed that I knew right from wrong, and I didn’t want my tax dollars going to ne’er-do-wells. After all, the good Lord gave me a strong mind and body to provide for myself and my family, and since He created all of us equal, it was safe to assume that He had done the same for everyone else. Therefore, whatever mess someone was in was of their own doing. I know differently now, but who in the Tea Party wants to hear it?

Just to be clear, severely cutting back the funding for most of the federal and state social welfare programs is one of things that I was referring to with the throwing the baby out with the bathwater reference before. No, I don’t think they can get the job done, but do you really want to vote for someone who truly believes that only the strong should survive?

In all fairness, very few official Republicans believe differently, and most Democrats are just as bad—just in a different way. For they are all for social welfare programs, just as long as they are in control of them and their funding.

No, there is no need for panic. For our Heavenly Father truly is in full control of all that happens, and it will be as it should in the end.

Therefore, instead of getting all stressed out over tomorrows election results, I would highly recommend following the example that is being set by the baby in the new HP printer ad. Hey, I often made that very face when zipping in and out of traffic during my infamous chicken-haulin’ days.

By the way, if you are not familiar with the song in the commercial, it is Brand New Key by Melanie. The second video is of her performing the entire song.

Brand New Key
Melanie
I rode my bicycle
Past your window last night
I roller-skated
To your door at daylight
It almost seems
Like you’re avoiding me
I’m okay alone
But you got something I need

Well I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together
And try them out to see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

I ride my bike
I roller skate
Don’t drive no car
Don’t go too fast
But I go pretty far
For somebody who don’t drive
I’ve been all around the world
Some people say
I've done all right for a girl

Oh yeah yeah
Oh yeah yeah yeah
Oh yeah yeah yeah
Oh yeah yeah yeah

I asked your mother
If you were at home
She said yes
But you weren’t alone
Oh sometimes I think
That you’re avoiding me
I’m okay alone
But you got something I need

Well I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together
And try them out to see
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la
Oh I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key

  1. Ha! I love that song (we have the same advert airing in the UK). You mention that you were 'changed' - did that happen in the last couple of years or before the last vote?

I feel very strongly that we made a mistake in the UK but it became a cult of personality. People just wanted Gordon Brown out, no matter the cost, and now the poorest, most vulnerable people in society are paying the price in a very real way. It is not about rhetoric or ideals any longer, these people are literally losing their livelihoods.

  5. We had that album when I was a kid and I used it for something in my theater class when I was a freshman in high school. It's a classic! Love it and I sing it often--with or without the video encouragement. :)

  6. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Emm!!! The change I underwent started happening back when our Heavenly Father started making Himself real to me in 1993. Some of it was immediate, and the rest is still taking place. In regards to politics, the main thing that He has allowed and enabled me to know and understand is that He cares about everyone else in the same way as He cares about me, and that I should want to care about them as He does. Now, this is not to say that it is good to keep giving aid to those who are only interested in taking advantage of the system, but to want to shut down the system entirely is even worse. The solution is having leaders who will truly take a personal interest in trying to do the right thing, and these are the kind of people I am yet to be shown.

  7. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Auntie E!!! It was the expression on the face of that baby that first caught my attention. Whoever came up with that commercial had to have had some help from our Heavenly Father (even if they were unaware of it)!

  9. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lin!!! It came as such a great shock to me when my dad told me what that song was really all about--both in regards to what he said and that he even said it. For sex was not a topic for open discussion back then. In fact, it never was.
