Come Monday...I Am Now Somebody!

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about, websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is subject to change, however. In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while. For rants promote change, and change can be good—right? Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

What I am talking about is in terms of recognition, and it is long overdue—even if I have to say so myself! For I have been well aware of my importance since before I can remember when, but now that I have been given the power to determine what programming the rest of you will see on television, the time has come for you to realize just how special it is to have met my acquaintance.

What was that? Could I have heard some mumblings? Well, it is a good thing that I have decided to be a benevolent ruler of the airways, and there is not a doubt in my mind that this was one of the reasons for why [Nielsen] chose me to choose what shows everyone else will be watching.

No, I am not the only one living under this roof. For my wife and her mother also claim this address as their abode.

Yes, they were also asked to fill out a survey/programming diary, but it was my name on the packet that we received in the mail. Besides, as far as I am concerned, my opinion is the only one that counts—anyway!

Be assured that it turned-out to be quite a chore. For we like to record as much as possible on the [DVR] so that we can zip through most of the commercials, and this is taken into account in the daily diary that was provided for each of the three television sets that we have here. Nonetheless, the hard part came from having to keep track of just when each show that we watched was actually recorded.

No, it shouldn’t have been all that hard. For the information about when it was recorded is included with the information about the show, but when you have had to live your entire life around lesser beings, some of their inadequacies are bound to rub-off.

Well, at least the programming diary for our television in the living room made it clear that one of my endearing qualities is how humble I truly am. For it showed that nothing else but science fiction and sports was watched when I was by myself, and almost everything else but science fiction and sports was watched when my wife and her mother were enjoying my company.

Yes, the height of my tolerance really is breathtaking. For what does the [CBS Early Show], [George Lopez], [King of the Hill], [Animal Cops], [The Young and the Restless], [The Bold and the Beautiful], [Judge Joe] and [Judge Judy] have in comparison to [Star Trek: The Next Generation], [Star Trek: Enterprise], [Stargate SG-1], [Stargate Atlantis], [Stargate Universe], [The Dan Patrick Show] and football (NOT SOCCER!!!)?

Oh, but I am not finished. For both my wife and her mother have the memory spans of a premature [ga-nat]. Therefore, they never see a repeat, and they are both absolutely thrilled to watch episodes of [Two and a Half Men] over and over again.

No, as a matter of fact, I am not worried. For neither one ever visit this site.

Furthermore, I am about to mention something good about them. For my mother-in-law usually retires to her bedroom around 7 PM every night to watch whatever movie is being played on the [Hallmark Channel], and then my wife and I settle down to watch such things as [House], [Fringe], [Hell’s Kitchen], [NCIS], [NCIS: Los Angeles], [The Good Wife], [The Big Bang Theory], [Mike & Molly], [The First 48], [CSI], [Chopped], [Iron Chef America], [Rubicon], [Sons of Anarchy], [Terriers] and [Blue Bloods].

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I realize that the cooking shows go against my manly manliness, but such sacrifices are necessary in order to maintain a sense of civility in our household. After all, public floggings of wives are no longer an acceptable practice—not even in these parts, and private knock-down drag-outs can get really messy.

  1. I love Two and Half Men also. But I do wish charlie Sheen would clean up his personal life. A lot of teen age boys watch that show too and hear about his personal escapades in real life.

I use to be a CSI junkie until they had CSI everywhere but I love everything about 48 hours!!

Oh yes, I love Hell's Kitchen too. But, it drives Walter up the wall because of that word he uses all the time.

I just try to ignore it!
    Happy day!

  3. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Jackie!!! Yes, Two and a Half Men has gone from absolutely hilarious to plump pathetic for both of us now. For it was different when we thought he was making fun of the way he used to be, but to find out that he is really not acting at all is an entirely different story. An article about this is swirling around in my head, but I don't know if it will ever get published.

We have both lost interest in CSI Miami and New York, but the original is still a winner for us--even without Grissom. Don't you think Marge Marge has aged well?

Now, you do realize that I am talking about "The First 48" on A&E, which is a show about following real criminal cases as they are worked in certain cities around the country? "48 Hours" is on CBS, and it is usually about unsolved mysteries of sorts.

What word does Walter take such offense to? Donkey?

  4. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! Watching House is rather bittersweet to me. For I absolutely hate his general demeanor, but I would dearly love to find a doctor like him. For all of the doctors I have seen have invariably shrugged their shoulders and said, "Yep, you are really messed, but I have no idea what is wrong." When I have asked them if they know of anyone who might know, they have all said, "No."

  6. I like House a lot, and the Mentalist. I think Jane is awesome. :) Two and a half men is a bit too silly for me.

  7. Dearie dearie me, it clearly is not intellectual stimulation you watch!

Apart from the football (Not the THROWBALL!) there is nothing I would watch bar the news, although being American it will be somewhat lacking in a world view.

I watch the football, and a quiz show called 'Eggheads,' the news, and I use the PC to catch up on the BBC I Player which has given me some history programmes recently (and more football).
    Almost everything else I ignore.
    TV is poor here.

  8. I recently started watching House on a semi regular basis now that Law and Order is not on as often as it used to be. Another one that I don't mind watching is Bones.

  9. I'm actually watching an episode of 'The first 48' right now. It's on the Crime channel over here. On the subject of House, I can't watch Hugh Lawrie without remembering him as the hapless characters he played in the series of Blackadder back in the 90's. Without a doubt football aka soccer is the best game in the world.

  10. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ron!!! Well, I have to take my shots at her when I can. For getting beat about the head and shoulders on a regular basis by a 72 year-old woman who is barely five foot tall is downright embarrassing. As in regards to the cooking shows, I think I have already said too much for my own good.

  11. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Oyvind!!! We tried watching "The Mentalist" when it first came on, but the Jane character was a little too smug for our taste. The schoolboy crush that I have had for Robin Tunney remains as strong as ever, however.

  12. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! Yeah, I can see you watching a show like "Eggheads" with a great amount of enthusiasm. After all, if footie can capture your attention--what can't?

  13. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! I think it is absolutely awful that NBC decided to not air another season of Law & Order. For that would have given it the record for the longest running series ever, and we are purposely boycotting Law & Order: Los Angeles on account of that.

I have been tempted to try Bones. For I have really enjoyed much of David Boreanaz's work, but Emily Deschanel is a problem for both my wife and I. For we both see her as the epitome of a woman who is red-hot on the outside while being cold as ice on the inside, and neither one of us think she is acting.

  14. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ryan!!! Alas, you love soccer. Enough said.

P.S.: My wife and I both got a big kick out of Hugh Laurie's hapless character in Leonardo DiCaprio's "The Man In The Iron Mask." For we first saw the movie after he had established himself as being this ultra-superior somebody on "House."
