ATF: Percussive Pieces

This weekly series will include as many of my all-time favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make.  For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

I’m a Man
Chicago
Well my pad is very messy
Got whiskers on my chin
Never had no problems
‘Cause I’ve always paid the rent
I got no time for lovin’
‘Cause my time is all used up
I stand outside creatin’
All the groovy kinds of love

I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so
Oh baby
I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so
Yes I am

If I had my choice of matter
I’d rather be content
All engrossed in mental chatter
Showin’ where your mind is at
While relatin’ to each other
How strong the love can be
Be resistin’ all the good times
With each groovy chick we see

I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so
Ooh I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so
I love to hear you talk

I’ve got to keep my image
While I’m standin’ on the floor
If I drop upon my knees
It’s just to keep them on my nose
You think that I’m not human
And my heart is made of stone
But I’ve never had no problems
And my body’s pretty strong

I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so
Yeah yeah yeah
Yes I know
I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so
Yes I know
Yes I know
I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so
Ooh
I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so
Good God
I love you so
Love you so

The Boys of Summer
Don Henley
Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer’s out of reach
Empty lake
Empty streets
The sun goes down alone
I’m drivin’ by your house
Though I know
You’re not home

But I can see you
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
You got your hair combed back
And your sunglasses on baby
And I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy
Remember how I made you scream
Now I don’t understand
What’s happened to our love
But babe I’m gonna get you back
I’m gonna show you what I’m made of

I can see you
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
I see you walkin’ real slow
And smilin’ at everyone
I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

Out on the road today
I saw a deadhead sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said
Don’t look back
You can never look back
I thought I know what love was
What did I know
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but

I can see you
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
You got that top pulled down
And that radio on baby
And I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
I can see you
Your brown skin shinin’ in the sun
You got that hair slicked back
And those wayfarers on baby
I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Shadow!!! I am really glad you enjoyed these. For after you told me that you are a drummer, it was suggested that it would be nice to put up something especially for you. Next week will include what I consider to be the greatest drum solo ever in a song that also features what I consider to be some of the greatest organ playing ever. Sorry for the tease. By the way, would you like to guess Who suggested doing something nice for you?

  2. Compared to these guys, modern rock sounds boring and pre-packaged.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Stephen!!! There are a few much more current groups I enjoy listening to. In fact, I plan on including a couple of Fun.'s songs in this series, but overall the older stuff is much better.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Adullamite!!! Yes, I lost a lot of interest in their music after Peter Cetera took over lead of the group, but there will be (unless our Heavenly Father objects, of course) a couple from his leadership era included in this series later on.

  4. I'd like to be sitting on a people-free beach, in the sunshine, right this moment. What a wonderful dream. :)

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! I think I still have their original double-album (when they called themselves, Chicago Transit Authority, around somewhere. My brother and I also had 8-tracks of all of their albums through Chicago X. Where they got off to, I do not know.
