TFT: Blake Shelton

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world.  For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously fervent rants of rebellion.  Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

Ol’ Red
Blake Shelton
Well I caught my wife with another man
And it cost me a ninety-nine
On a prison farm in Georgia
 Close to the Florida line
Well I'd been here for two long years
I finally made the warden my friend
And so he sentenced me to a life of ease
 Taking care of ol’ Red

Now ol' Red he's the damnedest dog
That I've ever seen
Got a nose that can smell a two day trail
 He's a four-legged tracking machine
You can consider yourself mighty lucky
To get past the gators and the quicksand beds
But all these years that I've been here
 Ain't nobody got past Red

And the warden sang
 Come on somebody
 Why don't you run
 Ol' Red's itchin'
To have a little fun
 Get my lantern
 Get my gun
Red'll have you treed before the mornin' comes

Well I paid off the guard and I slipped out a letter
To my cousin up in Tennessee
Oh and he brought down a blue tick hound
She was pretty as she could be
Well they penned her up in the swampland
'Bout a mile just south of the gate
And I'd take ol' Red for his evening run
 I'd just drop him off
And wait

And the warden sang
 Come on somebody
 Why don't you run
 Ol' Red's itchin'
To have a little fun
 Get my lantern
 Get my gun
Red'll have you treed before the mornin' comes

Now ol' Red got real used to seeing
 His lady every night
And so I kept him away for three or four days
And waited till the time got right
Well I made my run with the evenin' sun
And I smiled when I heard 'em turn Red out
'Cause I was headed north to Tennessee
And ol' Red was headed south

And the warden sang
 Come on somebody
 Why don't you run
 Ol' Red's itchin'
To have a little fun
 Get my lantern
 Get my gun
Red'll have you treed before the mornin' comes

Now there's red haired blue ticks
All in the South
 Love got me in here
And love got me out

God Gave Me You
Blake Shelton
I've been a walkin’ heartache
I've made a mess of me
The person that I've been lately
 Ain't who I wanna be

But you stay here right beside me
And watch as the storm blows through
 And I need you

‘Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say
It's true
 God gave me you
 Gave me you

There's more here than what we're seein’
 A divine conspiracy
 That you, an angel lovely
 Could somehow fall for me
You'll always be love's great martyr
And I'll be the flattered fool
 And I need you

 Yeah

God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say
It's true
 God gave me you

On my own I'm only
Half of what I could be
 I can't do without you
 We are stitched together
 And what love has tethered
 I pray we never undo

‘Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I lost my way
There are no words here left to say
It's true
 God gave me you
Gave me you
 He gave me you

  1. Lovely songs,
the first reminds me of the sadness of this world but also has a spiritual reminder to me of how God can release us from our prisons. The second one is virtually the words I speak to Jesus.

  2. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Brenda!!! WONDERFUL ANALYSIS! For our Heavenly Father uses all sorts of different kinds of music to convey His message, and one of them are songs about the sufferings in this world and how He can deliver us from them in His perfect timing. Now, when it comes to me, His perfect timing is way too slow. (LOL?)

  5. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! Blake has been a fairly big country star for several years, and he is also one of the panelist on NBC's "The Voice."
