ATF: Twofers II

This series will include as many of my all-time favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make.  For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

Sgt. Pepper’s…/With a Little Help...
The Beatles
It was twenty years ago today
Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play
They've been going in and out of style
But they're guaranteed to raise a smile
So may I introduce to you
The act you've known for all these years
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

We're Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
We hope you will enjoy the show
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Sit back and let the evening go
Sgt. Pepper's lonely
Sgt. Pepper's lonely
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

It's wonderful to be here
It's certainly a thrill
You're such a lovely audience
We'd like to take you home with us
We'd love to take you home

I don't really want to stop the show
But I thought that you might like to know
That the singer's going to sing a song
And he wants you all to sing along
So let me introduce to you
The one and only Billy Shears
And Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

What would you think if I sang out of tune
Would you stand up and walk out on me
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
And I'll try not to sing out of key

Oh
I get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm
I get high with a little help from my friends
Mmm
Gonna try with a little help from my friends

What do I do when my love is away
Does it worry you to be alone
How do I feel by the end of the day
Are you sad because you're on your own

No
I get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm
Get high with a little help from my friends
Mmm
Gonna try with a little help from my friends

Do you need anybody
I need somebody to love
Could it be anybody
I want somebody to love

Would you believe in a love at first sight
Yes I'm certain that it happens all the time
What do you see when you turn out the light
I can't tell you but I know it's mine

Oh
I get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm
Get high with a little help from my friends
Oh
I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends

Do you need anybody
I just need someone to love
Could it be anybody
I want somebody to love

Oh
I get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm
Gonna try with a little help from my friends
Oh
I get high with a little help from my friends
Yes
I get by with a little help from my friends
With a little help from my friends

  1. Great post! Thankfully Sir Paul McCartney is still performing, and so is Billy Davis Jr. and Marilyn McCoo, who have been happily married for over 40 years. :)

    2. Actually considering I'm really older than dirt and didn't like the Beatles when they were HOT, I have grown to appreciate them the past 2-3 years. I like most of their songs. I also liked the 5th Dimension song too - at the time it was popular and still do. It's funny, sometimes I don't like whatever it currently popular, but then after a few years and hearing music get worse and worse, I grow to like the hits from 10-20 years ago. Maybe that doesn't make sense, but that is the way the cookie crumbles with me. he he

    3. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Mario's Mom!!! I was a much bigger fan of Three Dog Night back in the day, but Hey Jude won me over. On another similar note, I did not want to have very much to do with Led Zeppelin during their hey-day while I started appreciating their music much more later on.

  7. Boy! I think we wore our LPs thin...they were almost constantly on the turntable!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! Come to think of it, I don't recall ever having a Beatles LP. I had a few 45s, but no LPs. I thought the green apple logo for their label was especially cool.

    2. We had every one of their albums/LPs...and we also had a couple doubled up on reel-to-reel tape.

    3. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lee!!! Wow, that was some collection! I can't recall ever hearing music coming directly from reel-to-reel--other than maybe over the radio. I don't think my hearing has ever been keen enough to appreciate any advantage there may be, but it would still be super cool to have reel-to-reel albums in a collection.

  8. But my ex was more of a Beatles fan than I was/am. But one cannot deny the impression they made. It's just the usual case of individual preferences.

    1. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lee!!! I wonder now what was wrong with me back then. Ah, but I somehow talked my parents into letting me watching their Hard Day's Night and Help! movies!
