Waylon and Willie

Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies
Grow Up To Be Cowboys
Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson
Cowboys ain’t easy to love
And they’re harder to hold
They’d rather give you a song
Than diamonds or gold
Lone Star belt buckles
And old faded Levis
And each night begins a new day
If you don’t understand him
And he don’t die young
He’ll probably just ride away

Mamas
Don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don’t let ‘em pick guitars
Or drive them old trucks
Let ‘em be doctors
And lawyers
And such
Mamas
Don’t let you babies grow up to be cowboys
‘Cause they’ll never stay home
And they’re always alone
Even with someone they love

Cowboys like smoky old pool rooms
And clear mountain mornings
Little warm puppies
And children
And girls of the night
Them that don’t him won’t like him
And them that do
Sometimes won’t know how to take him
He ain’t wrong
He’s just different
But his pride won’t let him
Do things to make you think he’s right

Mamas
Don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don’t let ‘em pick guitars
Or drive them old trucks
Let ‘em be doctors
And lawyers
And such
Mamas
Don’t let you babies grow up to be cowboys
‘Cause they’ll never stay home
And they’re always alone
Even with someone they love

Mamas
Don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don’t let ‘em pick guitars
Or drive them old trucks…

  5. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! I'm not sure if they ever did a duet of "Amanda," but Waylon had a big hit with it back in the early 70's (I think). His and Don William's version are two of my favorites.

  6. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ryan!!! Yeah, it's hard to imagine that he turned 78 last April. As an added footnote, it is said that he wrote "Crazy," which was a huge hit for Patsy Cline, while eating breakfast at Martha's Pancake House here in Springfield. It is not said if he was actually thinking of the pancakes at the time, but since the place is still in business, they would have to be pretty good.

  11. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! Well, singing about the life is a lot easier than actually living it. Although, I am quite sure that both of them woke-up feeling like something had kicked them in the head more times than they would like to count.
