Not every song that
will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian”
in the eyes of this world. For some will
be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously
ferverent rants of rebellion.
Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in
one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the
message.

Flowers on the Wall
The Statler Brothers
I’ve been hearin’
You’re concerned
About my happiness
But all that
thought
You’re givin’ me
Is conscience I
guess
If I were walkin’
In your shoes
I wouldn’t worry
none
While you and your
friends
Are worryin’ about
me
I’m havin’ lots of
fun
Countin’ flowers on
the wall
That don’t bother
me at all
Playin’ solitaire
‘til dawn
With a deck of
fifty-one
Smokin’ cigarettes
And watchin’
Captain
Kangaroo
Now don’t tell me
I’ve nothin’ to do
Last night
I dressed in tails
Pretended I was on
the town
As long as I can
dream
It’s hard to
Slow this swinger
down
So please don’t a
give
A thought to me
I’m really doin’
fine
You can always
Find me here
And havin’ quite a
time
Countin’ flowers on
the wall
That don’t bother
me at all
Playin’ solitaire
‘til dawn
With a deck of
fifty-one
Smokin’ cigarettes
And watchin’
Captain
Kangaroo
Now don’t tell me
I’ve nothin’ to do
It’s good to see
you
I must go
I know I look a
fright
Anyway
My eyes are not
Accustomed to this
light
And my shoes
Are not accustomed
To this hard
concrete
So I must go back
To my room
And make my day
complete
Countin’ flowers on
the wall
That don’t bother
me at all
Playin’ solitaire
‘til dawn
With a deck of
fifty-one
Smokin’ cigarettes
And watchin’
Captain
Kangaroo
Now don’t tell me
I’ve nothin’ to do
Don’t tell me
I’ve nothin’ to do

Bed of Roses
The Statler Brothers
She was called a
scarlet woman by the people
Who would go to
church but left me in the street
With no parents of
my own
I never had a home
But an eighteen
year-old boy has got to eat
She found me
outside one Sunday morning
Beggin’ money from
a man I didn’t know
She took me in and
wiped away my childhood
A woman of the
streets
This Lady Rose
This bed of Rose’s
that I lay on
Where I was taught
to be a man
This bed of Rose’s
where I’m livin’
Is the only kind of
life I understand
She was a handsome
woman
Just thirty-five
Who was spoken to
in town by very few
She managed a late
evenin’ business
Like most of the
town wished they could do
And I learned all
the things that a man should know
From a woman not
approved of I suppose
But she died knowin’
that I really loved her
Off life’s bramble
bush
I picked a rose
This bed of Rose’s
that I lay on
Where I was taught
to be a man
This bed of Rose’s
where I’m livin’
Is the only kind of
life I understand
This bed of Rose’s
that I lay on
Where I was taught
to be a man
This bed of Rose’s
where I’m livin’
Is the only kind of
life I understand

Shall I shock you? I really like the Statler Brothers - especially the guy who sings bass. My favorite - always on my playlist is THIS ONE
ReplyDeleteThey are a Class Act!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHarold, was the bass singer.
and Harold and Don were the real bros.
I'm not familiar with either one of those songs. Guess I never listened to much Statler Brothers
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! Well, I am quickly learning to expect just about anything from you. Your song was most definitely considered, and since you love it so, check back on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Jel!!! They really are. Although, I can remember the shock that rippled through our family the first time we heard them sing a regular country song over the radio. For we had always thought of them as strictly being a Southern Gospel group before. Of course, we were just mistaken, and it did not lessen their great appeal to us in the least.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! "Flowers on the Wall" was a big hit with my brother and I because of the reference to Captain Kangaroo.
ReplyDeleteDoomed, we are all doomed....
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! Alas, things have been going downhill in a hurry since Captain Kangaroo was dropped from syndication.
