Put Another Log on the Fire

Put Another Log on the Fire
Tompall Glaser
Put another log on the fire
Cook me up some bacon and some beans
And got out to the car and change the tire
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans
Come on baby
You can fill my pipe
And then go fetch my slippers
And boil me up another pot of tea
Then put another log on the fire
Babe
And come and tell me why you’re leavin’ me

Now don’t I let you wash the car on Sunday
Don’t I warn you when you’re gettin’ fat
Ain’t I a-gonna take you fishin’ with me someday
Well a man can’t love a woman more than that
Ain’t I always nice to your kid sister
Don’t I take her drivin’ every night
So sit here at my feet
‘Cause I like you when you’re sweet
And you know it ain’t feminine to fight

So
Put another log on the fire
Cook me up some bacon and some beans
Go out to the car and lift it up and change the tire
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans
Come on baby
You can fill my pipe
And then go fetch my slippers
And boil me up another pot of tea
Then put another log on the fire
Babe
And come and tell me why you’re leavin’ me

  1. What a great song! More of this please! I am informed some misandry arises when this song is played, and I cannot understand why!

  2. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! No, I can't understand why that would happen, neither. (Yes, I had to look-up what "misandry" means.)

  3. People actually sang that song with a straight face? They surely are not serious? I didn't play the video, just reading the lyrics gave me my laugh for the day...Oy!

  4. My mother used to quote that song all the time.

I remember a time when women would just do it, and not complain about it.

What did we call this era?

Oh, yeah, I remember. It was The Good Ole Days.

  6. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! Well, if you listen to the song, they all crack-up as soon as the last note is played. So, I would say that they were having a great deal of trouble doing the song with a straight face, especially with Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter being two of the background singers. For I don't think he would like the way she would bring him a cast-iron skillet full of bacon and beans under those circumstances.

  7. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear John!!! It sounds like you might have some cantankerous old Scot (Adullamite) in you, too!
