ATF: Mondays

This series will include as many of my all-time favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make.  For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

Long Long Way From Home
Foreigner
It was a Monday
A day like any other day
I left the small town
For the apple in decay
It was my destiny
It’s what we needed to do
They were telling me
I’m telling you

I was inside
Looking outside
The millions of faces
But still I’m alone
Waiting
I was over waitin’
Paying a penance
I was longing for home
I’m looking out
For the two of us
I hope we’ll be here
When they’re through with us

I was inside
Looking outside
Oh the millions of faces
But still I’m alone
Waiting
I was over waiting
I could feel the tension
I was longing for home
I’m looking out
For the two of us
And I hope we’ll be here
When they’re through with us
I’m coming home

Monday
Sad sad Monday
She’s waiting for me
But I’m a long long way from home
Sad sad Monday
She’s waiting for me
But I’m a long long way from home
Sad sad Monday
Ah she’s waiting for me
But I’m a long long way from home

Come Monday
Jimmy Buffett
Headin' up to San Francisco
For the Labor Day weekend show
I've got my hushpuppies on
I guess I never was meant for glitter rock and roll
And honey I didn't know
That I'd be missin' you so

Come Monday
It'll be all right
Come Monday
I'll be holdin' you tight
I’ve spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side

Yes it's been quite a summer
Rent-a-cars
And westbound trains
And now you're off on vacation
Somethin' you tried to explain
And darlin' it's I love you so
That's the reason I just let you go

Come Monday
It'll be all right
Come Monday
I'll be holdin' you tight
I’ve spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side

I can't help it honey
You're that much a part of me now
Remember that night in Montana
When we said there'd be no room for doubt

I hope you're enjoyin' the scenery
I know that it's pretty up there
We can go hikin' on Tuesday
With you I'd walk anywhere
California has worn me quite thin
I just can't wait to see you again

Come Monday
It'll be all right
Come Monday
I'll be holdin' you tight
I’ve spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side
I’ve spent four lonely days in a brown L. A. haze
And I just want you back by my side

  2. I had a Foreigner album back in the day that I played constantly. I think I also had them on 8 track. Not many people around who even know what one of those is any more :)

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! I can't remember having one of either, but I would usually perk up when one of their songs came on the radio! Be assured that there will be more from Foreigner in this series later on.

    2. We used to have an 8-track, too, Ann. It was an Akai, when Akai were still a top make to have. They put out the best of sounds.

    3. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! Oh yeah, I can remember when an Akai 8-track deck was considered an essential part of an ultimate home stereo component system.

  3. I've never owned music by these guys, but I've enjoyed their music on the radio. And everywhere I've been in the Caribbean when it comes to Jimmy Buffet.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Stephen!!! Hey, I've picked up a load of flowering plants in Homestead, Florida. That's awfully close to the Caribbean--ain't it?

  4. Two good choices, once again! Love Foreigner's early stuff. Merry Christmas to you if I don't comment before then.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Silver Fox!!! Alas, I grew to absolutely hate their "Cold As Ice." For I was working as a fuel attendant/tire guy at an old Union 76 truckstop during the fall of '77, and it was being played on the jukebox almost constantly. Of course, one could argue that I would not have become so sick of the song if I had not of been spending so much time in the restaurant, but Sam also worked there as a waitress, and we were still rather close to being newlyweds. Oh yeah, I hope you-all have a very Merry Christmas!

  5. Ahhh....I do love Jimmy Buffett....his wonderful laid-back style made many a late afternoon drinks' interlude by the sea (Margaritas, of course) thoroughly enjoyable. My many memories are great and are cherished.

Sad to hear the loss of another great...Joe Cocker.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! Yes, I just saw the headline where Joe had died, and it came as a great shock to me. For I was unaware of him being so sick. Be assured that some his renditions are on the list to be included in this series later on.
