TFT: The Wallflowers

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world.  For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion.  Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

One Headlight
The Wallflowers
So long ago
I don't remember when
That's when they say
I lost my only friend
Well they said she died easy
Of a broken heart disease
As I listened through
The cemetery trees

I seen the sun comin' up
At the funeral at dawn
The long broken arm
Of human law
Now it always seemed such a waste
She always had a pretty face
So I wondered how she
Hung around this place

Hey hey hey
Come on try a little
Nothin’ is forever
There's got to be somethin’ better than
In the middle
But me and Cinderella
We put it all together
We can drive it home
With one headlight

She said it's cold
It feels like Independence Day
And I can't break away
From this parade
But there's got to be an openin’
Somewhere here in front of me
Through this maze of
Ugliness and greed
And I seen the sun up ahead
At the county line bridge
Sayin' all there's good
And nothingness is dead
We'll run until she's out of breath
She ran until there's nothin' left
She hit the end
It's just her window ledge

Hey hey hey
Come on try a little
Nothin’ is forever
There's got to be somethin’ better than
In the middle
But me and Cinderella
We put it all together
We can drive it home
With one headlight

Well this place is old
It feels just like a beat up truck
I turn the engine
But the engine doesn't turn
Well it smells of cheap wine and cigarettes
This place is always such a mess
Sometimes I think I'd like to watch it burn
I'm so alone
And I feel just like somebody else
Man I ain't changed
But I know I ain't the same
But somewhere here in between
The city walls of dyin' dreams
I think her death
It must be killin' me

Hey
Hey
Hey hey hey hey hey
Come on try a little
Nothin’ is forever
There's got to be somethin’ better than
In the middle
But me and Cinderella
We put it all together
We can drive it home
With one headlight

6th Avenue Heartache
The Wallflowers
Sirens ring
The shots ring out
A stranger cries
Screams out loud
I had my world
Strapped against my back
I held my hands
Never knew how to act

And the same black line
That was drawn on you
Was drawn on me
And now it's drawn me in
6th Avenue heartache

Now walkin' home
On those streets
The river winds
Move my feet
Subway steam
Like silhouettes in dreams
They stood by me
Stood by me
Stood by me
Just like moonbeams

And the same black line
That was drawn on you
Was drawn on me
And now it's drawn me in
Yeah
6th Avenue heartache
6th Avenue heartache
And the same black line
That was drawn on you
Was drawn on me
And now it’s drawn me in
Yeah
6th Avenue heartache
6th Avenue heartache

Look out the window
Down upon that street
And gone like a midnight
Was that man
But I see his six strings
Laid against that wall
And all his things
They all look so small
I got my fingers crossed
On a shooting star
Just like me
Just moved on

And the same black line
That was drawn on you
Was drawn on me
And now it's drawn me in
6th Avenue heartache
6th Avenue heartache
And the same black line
That was drawn on you
Was drawn on me
And now it’s drawn me in
Yeah
6th Avenue heartache
6th Avenue heartache

And now it’s drawn me in

And the same black line
That was drawn on you
Was drawn on me
And now it's drawn me in
Yeah
6th Avenue heartache
6th Avenue heartache

  1. Ok - I'm in lust! Jakob Dylan is way hot - unlike his father. He also sings way better than his father tho now and again you can hear a teeny tiny vocal resemblance. The lyrics didn't impress me but the music on the first song was rather good. I liked the first song better than the second.

And Jakob Dylan is total yum-yum!

  2. I didn't think I had ever heard them before even after listening to the first song. After the second one though I'm pretty sure I've heard that one. They aren't bad at all

  3. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! "Well they said she died easy of a broken heart disease
as I listened through the cemetery trees" was the line that really got me hooked on One Headlight, but I agree with the assessment that some of the lyrics are rather confusing. By the way, I am really impressed with you knowing so much about the group. Hey, maybe you are not as old and decrepit as I think? (Nah.)
