I Will Always Love You
Dolly Parton
If I
Should stay
I would only
Be in
Your way
So I'll go
But I know
I'll think of you
Each step
Of the way
And I
Will always
Love you
And I
Will always
Love you
Bittersweet
Memories
That's all I
Am taking
With me
Good-bye
Please don't cry
We both know
That I'm not
What you need
But I
Will always
Love you
And I
Will always
Love you
And I hope life
Will treat you kind
And I just hope
that
You’ll have all
That you ever
dreamed of
And I wish you joy
And happiness
But above
All of this
I wish you love
And I
Will always
Love you
And I
Will always
Love you
And I
Will always love
You

Dolly Parton - hands down. She lived it, she wrote it and for the emotional response and connection that we want from, and crave from, a ballad - no one touches her.
ReplyDeleteThat said - for the sheer beauty and joy of the sound of the music and purity of the instrument ie: her voice, Whitney Houston can not be touched - by any one, singing any thing (aside from classical singers of course, but just barely). Her instrument was extraordinary and she used it well. No gimmicks, no flash, no whacky personas - pure music, pure sound.
Jennifer Hudson - while she has a very good voice that performance was unsatisfactory and un-listenable, and that interpretation did little to honor either Dolly Parton or Whitney Houston.
I am well aware that imitating another singer is foolish, certainly no one can imitate Whitney Houston since no one has her vocal abilities, (they say Mariah Carey's vocal abilities comes close), and that every singer has their own style and their own way of interpreting a song's music and lyrics, and those interpretations can often give a new meaning and feel for a song BUT in this case...the song should have been left alone. If they absolutely needed to have the song performed then Dolly Parton should have done it. Otherwise, let it stand - Jennifer Hudson did no one any favors with that performance.
Big Dolly had a brain, Witless is dead, and the other is just a copy.
ReplyDeleteDolly and then Whitney! sandie
ReplyDeleteDolly first Whitney second and Jennifer in my opinion isn't even in the running here
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Grace!!! Well, Jennifer's beginning was a little shaky, but I thought she did a really good job with it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! All kidding aside, there are times when you really do come off awfully harsh.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Sandie!!! It surprised me that Dolly had written it so long ago.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! It sounds like I am being ganged-up on here.
ReplyDeleteI'm with the crowd here--Dolly for writing and singing it, Whitney for the voice, Jennifer....well....uh....she lost some weight, eh?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Lin!!! Maybe I need to go take a better listen of Jennifer's rendition. For I am rather shocked by the reception it has received here.
