Come Monday...Swamp People

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

[Swamp People] is in its third season on The History Channel, and I suppose it could be argued that it belongs there.  After all, the show is documenting the continuation of a way of life that has been going on for several hundred years now.

Oh, but is it really?  For there is not a doubt in my mind that much of the show is staged, and that is what ruins it for me.

Nope, my wife and her mother could not care less if it is staged or not.  For they jump every time a hooked gator takes a snap after being brought up to the surface to receive the kill shot, and they shake their heads in dismay every time someone has forgotten to load the gun.

Yeah, I’ve been down in the swamps of Louisiana, and I felt perfectly safe behind the wheel of my big truck.  Hey, I may be the epitome of a manly-man to most, but I ain’t stupid.  So, you won’t be seeing me out there on the water while gators bigger than the john-boat I’m in are swimming underneath and wondering if I might taste like chicken.

By the way, I have eaten gator meat, and I liked it—A LOT!  Not enough to go get some for myself, though.

  2. All such programmes are staged to some extent, otherwise nothing much would happen! I could live quite happily without such beasts in this world.

  4. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!! Yeah, you're right about that, and some shows take it way too far for my enjoyment. In fact, most of them do.
