TWO FOR TUESDAY

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

Bittersweet Symphony
The Verve
‘Cause it’s a bittersweet
Symphony
That’s life
Try to make ends meet
You’re a slave to money
Then you die
I’ll take you down the only road
I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you
To the places where all the veins meet
Yeah

No change
I can change
I can change
I can change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
But I’m a million different people
From one day to the next
I can’t change
My mold
No
No
No
No
No

Well I never pray
But tonight I’m on my knees
Yeah
I need to hear some sounds
That recognize the pain in me
Yeah
I let the melody shine
Let it cleanse my mind
I feel free now
But the airways are clean
And there’s nobody singin’ to me
Now

No change
I can change
I can change
I can change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I’m a million different people
From one day to the next
I can’t change
My mold
No
No
No
No
No
I can’t change
I can’t change

‘Cause it’s a bittersweet
Symphony
This life
Try to make ends meet
Try to find some money
Then you die

You know I can change
I can change
I can change
I can change
But I’m here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I’m a million different people
From one day to the next
I can’t change
My mold
No
No
No
No
No

I can’t change my mold
No
No
No
No
No
I can’t change
Can’t change my body
No
No
No

I’ll take you down
The only road
I’ve ever been down
I’ll take you down
The only road
I’ve ever been down
Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Have you ever been down
Have you’ve ever been down

History
The Verve

I wander lonely streets
Behind where the old Thames does flow
And in every face I meet
It reminds me of what I have run from

In every man
In every hand
In every kiss
You understand
That livin’ is for other men
I hope you too
Will understand

I’ve got to tell you my tale
Oh how I loved
And how I failed
I hope you understand

I’ve got to tell you my tale
Oh how I loved
And how I failed
I hope you understand
These feelings should not be in the man

In every child
In every eye
In every sky above my head
I hope that I know

So come with me in bed
Because it’s you and me
We’re history
There ain’t nothin’ left to say
When I will get you alone

Maybe we could find a room
Where we could see what we should do
Maybe you know it’s true
Living with me is like keeping a fool

In every man
In every hand
That livin’ is for other men
I hope you know that I am me
So come one
I’m thinkin’ about history
And I’m livin’ for history
And I think you know about me

And one and one is two
But three is company
When you’re thinkin’ about the things you do
And you’re thinkin’ about the things you do

I want to tell you my tale
How I fell in love
And jumped out on my bail

I hope you understand
There’s more in a smile
Than in a hand

In every sky
In every kiss
There’s something
That I might have missed
Why am I goin’ to
A place that now belongs to you
But you were weak
And so was I
Let’s pick it up
Let’s even try
To live today
So why not smile
Don’t dream away your life

‘Cause it is mine
Is that a crime
Is that a crime
This life is mine
The bed ain’t made
But it’s filled full of hope
I’ve got a skin full of dope
Oh the bed ain’t made
But It’s filled full of hope
I’ve got a skin full of dope

  4. I first heard Bittersweet Symphony when I was traveling eastbound through Albequerque, NM in a big truck when it was in heavy rotation on the radio years ago, my dear Daisy. It had quite an impace upon me, and even more so now that I know all of the lyrics.

Thanks for stopping by!!! I hope you will come back often.

  5. Thanks for telling me about Velvet Morning, my dear Hindleyite!!! I was not familiar with the song at all. In fact, I am not sure if I have every heard before.

While listening to the song, it struck me just how much The Verve sounds like early Moody Blues. There also appears to be quite a Pink Floyd influence, as well.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by!!! I hope you will come back often.

  6. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Anne!!! Bittersweet Symphony certainly places the realities of life in this world for some into perspective. It's not really their fault. For it is as our Heavenly Father wants it to be in order to give them opportunities to give Him the full benefit of their considerable doubts. I hope you will come back often to hear more.
