ATF: Twofers

This weekly series will include as many of my all-time favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak).  Now, each one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered.  For I just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others.  So, this will not be a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter.  Besides, with no countdown, this could go on forever and ever!  Oh, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make.  For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by nature.

The Load Out/Stay
Jackson Browne
Now the seats
Are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They're the first to come
And last to leave
Workin’ for that minimum wage
They'll set it up in another town
Tonight the people were so fine
They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet
They made the show
And that was sweet
But I can hear the sound
Of slammin’ doors
And foldin’ chairs
And that's a sound they'll never know
Now roll them cases out
And lift them amps
Haul them trusses down
And get 'em up them ramps
'Cause when it comes to movin’ me
You know you guys are the champs
But when that last guitar's been packed away
You know I still want to play
So just make sure you got it all set to go
Before you come for this piano

But the band's on the bus
And they're ready to go
We've got to drive all night
And do a show in Chicago
Or Detroit
I don't know
We do so many shows in a row
And these towns all look the same
We just pass the time in our hotel rooms
And wander 'round backstage
‘Til those lights come up
And we hear that crowd
And we remember why we came

Now we got
Country and Western
On the bus
R and B
We got disco
In eight tracks
And cassettes
In stereo
We've got
Rural scenes
And magazines
We've got truckers on CB
We've got Richard Pryor on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
While the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play
People you've got the power over what we do
You can sit there and wait
Or you can pull us through
Come along
Sing the song
You know that you can't go wrong
'Cause when that morning sun comes beatin’ down
You're going to wake up in your town
But we'll be scheduled to appear
A thousand miles away from here

So people stay
Just a little bit longer
We want to play
Just a little bit longer
Now if the promoter don't mind
And the union don't mind
If we take a little time
And we leave it all behind
And sing
One more song

Oh won’t you stay
Just a little bit longer
Please
Please
Please
Say you will
Say you will

Oh won’t you stay
Just a little bit longer
Oh
Won’t you stay
Just a little bit longer
Yeah
Yeah

And if the promoter don’t mind
And the brothers don’t mind
If we take a little time
And Leave it all behind
And sing
One more song

Feeling That Way/Anytime
Journey
Opened my eyes
To a new kind of way
All the good times
That you saved

Are you feelin’
You’re feelin' that way too
Or am I just
Am I just a fool

When the summer’s gone
She’ll be there
Standin’ by the light
Once she’s been to where
She’s gone to
She should know
Wrong from right

Is she feelin’
Are you feelin’
You’re feelin’ that way too
Or am I just
Am I just a fool

A new road’s waitin’
You touched my life
Whoa oh
Soft and warm
On a summer’s night
You’re the only one
I told you
The only one I love
The lovely one
Lovely one
I’m thinkin’ of

When the summer’s gone
She’ll be there
Standin’ by the light
Once she’s been to where
She’s gone to
She should know
Wrong from right

Is she feelin’
Are you feelin’
You’re feelin' that way too
Whoa oh
Oh yeah yeah yeah
You’re feelin’ that way

When the summer’s gone
She’ll be there
Standin’ by the light
Once she’s been to where
She’s gone to
She should know
Wrong from right

Is she feelin’

Whoa oh oh

Whoa oh
Is she feelin’
Feelin’ that way
Oh
My my
Oh whoa
Feelin’ that way
Whoa oh
Oh whoa whoa
Oh whoa whoa
Who oh
Whoa whoa oh oh
My my my my my
My my my
My my whoa oh
Feelin’ that way
Whoa oh
Whoa oh
Whoa oh
Feelin’ that way
Whoa oh
Whoa oh
Whoa oh
Feelin’ that way

Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you want me
Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you need me
Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you want me to
Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you need me

I’m standing here
With my arms a mile wide
Hopin’ and prayin’
For you
Listen to me
And enlighten me
Yeah
I hope that you need me too
‘Cause

Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you want me
Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you need me

Give me
All of your sunshine
A spark is all I need
To take it away
All of the shadows
Well what more can I say
Yeah yeah

Oh
Anytime
At all
Anytime at all
Anytime at all

Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you want me
Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you need me
Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you want me to
Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you want me
Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you need me
Ooh
Ooh
Anytime that you want me to

  1. There's two songs I haven't heard in a long time. I used to listen to a lot of Journey back in the day

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! For around four months, I had a pair of fairly large Infinity cabinet/home speakers strapped to the bed in the sleeper of the truck I was driving at the time. Since I spent so little time back there, it seemed prudent at the time, and seeing the side windows actually rattle during songs like AC/DC's Hells Bells and Journey's Feeling That Way/Anytime sure made the miles fly by.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Stephen!!! I would not say that I am a big fan of his music, but I am planning on having at least one more from him in this series. Care to guess which one?

  5. Dear Jerry,

I am typing my comment again because I am not sure if my other comment went through....anyway...my last comment said: This music is classic and great. It never sounds old or dated; just like us! lol

  6. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Catherine!!! Well, it would seem that they are still having issues. For this is my second attempt to leave a reply about how sorry I am about you having trouble yesterday, and how I ran into the same thing a lot.

I also mentioned that Arlynda (my wife) claims that my "stuff" gets old in a hurry quite often, but since you are probably fully on her side, just never mind. Sigh.

  7. Ahhh....Jackson Browne...love his music. We played Browne a lot when we had the cruising restaurant in Noosa. His music suited the restaurant's atmosphere. When I was manager of the resort on Hinchinbrook Island...his production manager, Peyton Wilson came to stay at the resort for a week, just before Browne began his tour of Australia in November, 1986. Peyton was going to try to convince Jackson to take a break during his tour and come to the island to say for a few days...it never happened, unfortunately. But I sure did hope that it would! :)

    1. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! Wow, that would have really been something to have someone like him stay at your resort.
