“Come Monday…” is a
weekly series that will involve a review of (or commentary about) websites,
movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may
tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured
that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy
Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is
subject to change, however. In fact, I
would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a
while. For rants promote change, and
change can be good—right? Therefore,
since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the
parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being
something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).
Since
it was the Seattle Seahawks that had the 43 in Super Bowl XLVIII (48), I won’t
have much to say about the game. I will,
however, say that the Denver Broncos were not beaten by the Seahawks. For a team has to show up for the game before
they can be beaten.
Oh,
it was a very sad evening to be a Peyton Manning fan. For he didn’t show up for the game, either.
Nonetheless,
it was a fairly good evening for one who enjoys a truly great commercial or two
on occasion. Maybe I have become
spoiled? For there were only three or
four super bowl commercials that Arlynda and I wanted to back up the DVR for
another look-see at. Whereas, I can
remember the line-up from years past having one awesome commercial after
another throughout the broadcast.
In
any event, I am still too distraught over the Broncos making it that much easier for idiots to insist that defense wins championships to make a clear judgment on what commercial was the best and the worst. So, I will just include some awesome and
awful ones below. I look forward to
hearing what you have to say about them, though.

According to the newspaper Peyton Manning set a super bowl record for completed passes (34) - but one man doesn't make a team...
ReplyDeleteI was on the side of the Broncos, too. I always watch the Super Bowl and have done so for years and years. It's one of my little traditions. I was thrilled to see Joe Namath do the coin toss (twice).
ReplyDeleteSo there I was all settled in to watch the game when about 8 minutes after kick-off, if that, there was a local power outage!!!!!!
It's a wonder you didn't hear me roar up your way! I out-roared Katy Perry and all the Super Bowl spectators! I was so angry. I couldn't believe what was going on. My whole day was ruined!
The power mob were doing annual maintenance work on a junction box down the road a bit and the power was off for three hours. It came back on within the last 8 minutes of the game!!!! I was not happy!!!! Of all days!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
I only watched a few minutes of the beginning of the super bowl and I did catch a couple commercials that were pretty good. Wade said he changed the channel in the 3rd quarter
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Grace!!! Yeah, he completed a lot of passes, but most of them resulted in a gain of five yards or less, which did not do much to puts points on the scoreboard against a defense as strong as the Seahawks had. Furthermore, when he did have a receiver open 20 yards or more down the field, he made too many bad passes. If you would ask him about it today, I am quite sure he would admit that he had a terrible game. He is still a class-act in every way, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! It was painful to watch for a Broncos fan. For only the punter can honestly say that he played as well as he could. So, maybe the power company had your best interest at heart, and the commercials can be seen online.
ReplyDeleteStill, it is irritating--especially when they give their customers no prior notice when performing routine maintenance that shuts down the power to homes. It can't be helped in an emergency, but there is no excuse for not letting people know when it is not.
Thanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! Yeah, it was around the middle of the third quarter when it became clear that the Broncos had run out of time--barring the Seahawks leaving the field.
ReplyDeleteThe commercials are the best part.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Lady Lilith!!! They certainly were for us this time.
ReplyDeleteI'd say that my landlords were advised that there was going to be an outage on that day...because I rang the power company to find out if they had any idea how long it would be off, and the girl on the other end of the phone said notices had been sent; but nobody thought to pass the information on to me!
ReplyDeleteI have this marvellous, extraordinary gift, Jerry...a special, unique talent...every now and then; quite often, actually, I become invisible! ;)
Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lee!!! Hey, why not go over to your landlord's house when you are invisible and shut off their power unannounced?
ReplyDeleteThe adverts are as bad as the throwball game.
ReplyDeleteThe second one was funny however.
As for the tosser Beckham I ignored that, most folks do.
Thanks for stopping by, my dear Adullamite!!! Since you have so much experience with watching inane sporting events, I cannot summarily dismiss your observation. Although, I would still like to.
ReplyDeletepuppies and horses - who can resist that one...
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear TWG!!! We sure couldn't!
ReplyDeleteDon't care much for football--super bowl or no super bowl, so I didn't watch it. Nor did I go to any super bowl parties. I love when they invite me and when I refuse saying I don't like football, I always get the same response "Well, you can watch the commercials!" Yeah. No. Did you just hear yourself??? Who the hell likes commercials? Not me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Lin!!! You really are a people person--aren't you? (LOL?)
