This weekly series
will include as many of my all-time favorite tunes as I can get my grubby
little hands on (so to speak). Now, each
one included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit
only as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered. For I just cannot bring myself to rate some
higher than others. So, this will not be
a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t
matter. Besides, with no countdown, this
could go on forever and ever! Oh, and
despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can
be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions that you might dare to
make. I am, after all, quite magnanimous
by nature.

Song Sung Blue
Neil Diamond
Song sung blue
Everybody knows one
Song sung blue
Every garden grows
one
Me and you
Are subject to
The blues now and
then
But when you take
the blues
And make a song
You sing ‘em out
again
Sing ‘em out again
Song sung blue
Weepin’ like a
willow
Song sung blue
Sleepin’ on my
pillow
Funny thing
But you can sing
It with a cry in
your voice
And before you know
it
Get to feelin’ good
You simply got no
choice
Me and you
Are subject to
The blues now and
then
But when you take
the blues
And make a song
You sing ‘em out
again
Song sung blue
Weepin’ like a
willow
Song sung blue
Sleepin’ on my
pillow
Funny thing
But you can sing
It with a cry in
your voice
And before you know
it
Start to feelin’
good
You simply got no
choice
Song sung blue
Song sung blue
Funny thing…

Midnight Blue
Lou Gramm
Ain't got no
regrets
And I ain't losin'
track
Of which way I'm
goin’
Ain't gonna double
back
No
Don't want no
misplay
Put on no display
An angel
No
But I know my way
Ah yeah
Aah oh
I used to follow
Yeah that's true
But my followin’
days are over
Now I just gotta
follow through
And
I remember what my
father said
He said
Son
Life is simple
It's either cherry
red
Or
Midnight blue
Oh
Oh
Oh
Midnight blue
Oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh
You were the
restless one
And you did not
care
That
I was the trouble
boy
Lookin' for a
double dare
I won't apologize
for the
Things I've done
and said
But
When I win your
heart,
I'm gonna paint it
cherry red
I don't want to
talk about it
What you do to me
I can't live
without it
And you might think
that
It's much too soon
For us to go this
far
Into the
Midnight blue
Oh
Oh
Oh
This
Midnight blue
Oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh
If things could be
different
But that'd be a
shame
‘Cause
I'm the one who
could feel the sun
Right in the pourin’
rain
I won't say where
And I don't know
when
But
Soon there's gonna
come a day baby
I'll be back again
Yeah
I'll be back for
you
Ah ah ah
You see
I'm savin’ up my
love
Midnight blue
Oh
Oh
Oh
Into the
Midnight blue
Oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh
Into the
Midnight blue
Oh
Oh
Oh

aaaah, neil diamond... i'll never forget my friends little girl was a total neil diamond fan (age 3) and sitting at her house, visiting, i have to admit i thoroughly enjoyed that strong amazing voice of his.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Shadow!!! I don't remember what album it was of, but my first wife and I wore out an 8-track tape of Neil Diamond while we were working on getting our first place together into a livable condition back in 1977.
ReplyDeleteNever pegged you for a Neil Diamond fan...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you really opened up the swells of memories with this! Does anyone really (care) know what time it is, by the time I get through listening to all my old favorites?
ReplyDeleteYou see one song, another band, gotta hear this and gotta hear that[ with youtube it just all keeps on rolling!

Just before I read your post the song What's it all about Alfie, flew through my head so off to youtube I go.
Thanks for stopping by, my dear Grace!!! Even though I most definitely have a tendency to lean toward harder-edged rock, my musical interests also include classical, pure country/western, rhythm & blues and even some pop/bubble gum. I consider Neil Diamond to be hard to define, though. That is, except for just plain being a great entertainer!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Karen!!! Oh my, I was (and still am) a huge fan of Chicago. Hey, I've got their first album (it was a double!) when they were still going by Chicago Transit Authority (somewhere). Yeah, it is about time to reverse course and head east on I-90. Look for it in a couple of weeks (if my Editor allows it, of course).
ReplyDeleteI always like Neil Diamond
ReplyDeleteI still love Neil Diamond...that might make me sound a bit whatever to some folk...but I saw him live; and as mentioned on one of my posts not that long ago...his music played a big role in a special fun time in my life. And when my ex and I married in 1976, we had Diamond's "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" playing in the background during the ceremony.
ReplyDeleteDiamond has written some great songs. He should never be discounted as a great contributor to the music scene. Better than some of those around today!
Good tracks, Jerry. :)
Thanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! REALLY? (LOL?)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! I also loved The Jazz Singer, which I am sure you already know is the 1980 movie about his life.
ReplyDeleteSweetie "The Jazz Singer" was not a movie about Neil Diamond but rather a re-make of the Al Jolson movie of the same name. Just sayin'
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Grace!!! I stand corrected. I sure thought it was an original movie about him.
ReplyDeleteI love Neil Diamond as well, great choices here!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Darlin!!! I am really glad you enjoyed this. Marshall Tucker and The Gatlin Brothers are scheduled for tomorrow's edition.
