Come Monday...Geeking Out Over Iron Man

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of (or commentary about) websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

It only took me four years to finally see [Iron Man] after it came out in 2008.  It was worth seeing.  Sorry, what I meant to say was…
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my, I become disorientated thinking about what it would be like to see the movie in an actual theater.  For it was something to behold on our 31” LCD, and I can imagine there being a need for ambulances to be idling outside of an [IMAX] screening of the movie.

Come on now, who (whom?) am I trying to kid?  I don’t talk like that, and geeking out over Iron Man is no time to be trying to elevate my wordsmithing to a higher grammatical level.

So, let’s try that again, which is to say that I get dizzy thinking about seeing Iron Man on a bigger screen with a surround sound system big enough to curl my nose hairs.  Yeah, that sounded much better.

Okay, there appears to be several good reasons for why Arlynda will not let me out in public anymore, but she can get just as bad.  In fact, after I made asked her to watch Iron Man with me, she insisted upon seeing [Iron Man 2].

In some respects, Iron Man 2 was even better than Iron Man.  For it filled in many of the gaps in the storyline, and then there was [Scarlett Johansson] looking every bit as ravishing as many have said she was in other roles and in person.

No, I have never thought of Scarlett as being all that before, and Iron Man 2 was so good that Arlynda did not mind me discreetly slobbering in my chair whenever she graced a scene with her presence.  In all fairness, Arlynda has had a thing for [Robert Downey, Jr.] for a lot longer than she has known me, and I am egotistical enough to believe that she was not settling for scraps when she begged me to marry her a little over 19 years ago.

Hey, my darling wife also perked right up when she saw [Samuel L. Jackson] as [Nick Fury] in the squel.  So, I suppose we will need to see [The Avengers] when it becomes available to the lowly likes of us in 2-3 years.

Speaking of such, [Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.] will be on ABC this fall.  Since I do not remember all that much about the bunch from my comic book days years ago, I am very hopeful of being able to enjoy the show.

I suspect that one of the reasons why I am able to geek out so much over [Iron Man] these days is because of not remembering a whole lot about the character from over 30 years ago.  For I remember a lot about [Spider-Man], and I have found most of the recent movies about him sorely lacking—even with all of the modern [CGI] wizardry included in the $100 million extravaganzas.

Not so with the Iron Mans.  Therefore, Arlynda and I are looking forward to when we can see [Iron Man 3].  If you promise to behave, your better half might let you out of the house to see it sooner.

  1. I love the "Iron Man" franchise. It's a fun series. And I've always been a big fan of Robert Downey Jr. I think he's great in everything he's made. He's full of natural mischief...he just can't help himself...and I just love that about him! :)

  4. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lee!!! Hey, many a fair maiden has called me a stinker--even when upwind!

  5. Yes, my dear very astute anonymous friend, a dollar isn't much for a book. By the way, it is crackerhead--not crackhead. By definition, a crackerhead is someone who crumbles under pressure--regardless of whether real or imagined. Whereas, a crackhead is someone who seldom has a dollar to spend on a book. Thanks for stopping by!!!

  6. Thanks for stopping by, my dear TWG!!! Would it help if they had ducks? Come to think of it, Mickey Rourke's character in Iron Man 2 dearly loved his large white cockatoo.

  7. Ummmm...I'm a little perplexed, Jerry....I never called you a stinker. I think you may have confused me with someone else.

I mentioned in my reply to you in my blog...if you're looking for a movie to watch and you've not yet seen "The Guard"...it's worth a look. It's an Irish movie...not a big blockbuster, but it's a good movie. I found it very funny. If you liked "In Bruges"...you will like "The Guard", too, I reckon. (Once you get your head around the Irish accents)! ;)

  8. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lee!!! Calling someone a stinker around here is generally in reference to their mischievous ways. So, I was trying to allude to the fact that I am just like darling Robert in that respect, but as Arlynda would have you know, calling someone a stinker around here can also be just on account of how much they stink. She calls me that a lot. Sigh.

  9. I don't remember Ironman like I do Superman and the other Marvel heros. I haven't seen these movies, but I hear they are good. And if you and Arlynda recommend them.....

  10. Hahahahaha! Thanks for explaining that to me, Jerry!

While we're on the subject of movies...and from all that I've read, you, like me, enjoy your movies. I've been a movie fan from when I was a little kid.

A good one I watched the other was "The Town" starring Ben Affleck; and also directed by him. I thought it was very good. Also another good one I watched a couple of weeks ago (I may already have mentioned it) is "Jayne Mansfield's Car"; written, directed by Billy Bob Thorton...who also stars in it, along with Robert Duvall, Kevin Bacon and Shawnee Smith (of "Becker" fame). It's a great "little" movie...I really like it. It's a bit quirky...as is Billy Bob...but I thought it was just a wonderful movie...not a blockbuster...just a little movie; one I'd not heard of before.

It was released in early 2012 at the Berlin International Film Festival and received an award, I think. It's worth a look.

  11. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Lin!!! Well, if you can think of his suit as being like a really high-tech pair of hip-waders, I think you could really get into Iron Man.

  12. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lee!!! I have heard that The Town is a really good movie, and I would like to see it when we can. I may be way off, but I am thinking that it is kinda along the same lines as The Departed. If you have not seen The Departed yet and go to see it, you are in for quite an ending.

I have liked most of the Billy Bob Thornton movies I've seen--even Bad Santa! Of course, Bad Santa is no Sling Blade, but it has its moments. By the way, he was born a little over two years before I was in Hot Springs, Arkansas, which is around 200 miles to the southwest of where I was born in Newport.

  13. I loved "The Departed"...it's a brilliant movie; and I've seen it about three times...so far. It sits alongside "Heat" in brilliance, to my way of thinking.

I never shy away from a Billy Bob movie...he's always out of left fied, I reckon. He's good even when he's a bad Santa! ;)

  14. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lee!!! The ending to The Departed left my mouth flopped wide open for quite a while afterward, and Heat had me sweating bullets throughout the movie.
