Come Monday...Lifetime's Cop Dramas

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

Before we get started, I would like to make it clear that even knowing about the existence of [Lifetime] has nothing to do with me not being nearly as much of a manly man as I truly am.  The same applies to the fact of actually watching both of the new(ish) shows being kinda, sorta, maybe reviewed here—be assured.

Okay, if you must know, it is about keeping the peace with the wife, which is what manly men do.  Yeah, most are under the impression that this is accomplished much more through the use of brawn than brains, but………it would probably be best for me to just get on with the review now.

The first show is [The Protector], starring [Ally Walker] as a police detective, who now lives with her two kids and younger brother after a fairly amicable divorce from her therapist husband, who is played by [Jay Karnes], who you may remember from [The Shield] and [Sons of Anarchy].  Ironically, Ally also had (has?) a recurring role on SoA, with both of their roles being that of somewhat less-than-honorable federal agents (to put it mildly).

I don’t think that has anything to do with it.  For the role she is now playing is a very sympathetic one, and just her looks alone should have me slobbering all over myself.  So, why I am not?  (No, let’s not be revisiting that great lack of manly manliness thing again—okay?)

The Protector also stars [Tisha Campbell-Martin], who played [Damon Wayans] wife on his [My Wife and Kids] television show.  Along with [Miguel Ferrer], who played the Chief Medical Examiner on [CrossingJordan].

All in all, my wife and I both enjoy the show, and if you would like to give it a look-see, new episodes air on Monday nights at 10 PM CDST.  No, I have not had a discussion with her about why I don’t find Ally Walker nearly as attractive as I probably should.

Very little of what was said about The Protector applies to [Against The Wall].  For it stars, [Rachael Carpani], as an Internal Affairs detective in the Chicago Police Department, and I have no trouble slobbering all over myself when thinking of her.

Another thing that Against The Wall does not have in common with The Protector is our approval.  For my wife and I only made it through one and a half episodes before all of the displays of animosity being exhibited by her father and brothers against her got to be just too much for us to take.

You see, everyone in her immediate family, except for her mother, who is played by [Kathy Baker], of [Picket Fences] renown, is also a cop, and they consider being a part of the Internal Affairs Division akin to treason.  Granted, that is not such a far-fetched premise, but with her menfolk doing everything but trying to ram a wooden stake through her heart in almost every other scene, it got old in hurry to us.

No, I don’t think having [Treat Williams] playing the father helps the show all that much, especially with him being so unfair to a daughter who desperately wants his approval.  Ah, but stranger things have happened (like [Roseanne’s Nuts] making it on the air).  If you would like to see what I mean, new episodes of Against The Wall air on Sunday nights at 9 PM CDST.

  1. This is the exact reason that I splashed out on a 37in flat screen for the bedroom, peace and quiet to enjoy the fitba while the wife watches Blue Bloods, CSI etc etc

  2. I'm not familiar with either one of those shows but it's not surprising as I am a creature of habit and tend to stick with the same old shows over and over not matter how many repeats I watch.
You really should do something about that slobbering problem :)

  4. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! Well, if we could get around like you still can, we probably wouldn't be watching much TV at all. In regards to the slobbering, as long as I keep it mopped up, Arlynda doesn't yell at me as much as she used to. Of course, when she starts drooling over Sam Elliot or Tom Selleck, I'm not allowed to say word.
