TWO FOR TUESDAY {REDO}

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

If You Could Read My Mind
Gordon Lightfoot
If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
About a ghost from a wishing well
In a castle dark
Or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I’m a ghost
That you can’t see

If I could read your mind love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind the drugstores sell
Then you reach the part
Where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
But heroes often fail
And you won’t ready that book again
Because the ending’s just too hard to take

I’d walk away
Like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three-way script
Enter number two
A movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me
But for now love
Let’s be real
I never knew
I could feel this way
And I’ve got to say
That I just don’t get it
I don’t know
Where we went wrong
But the feeling’s gone
And I just can’t get it back

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
About a ghost from a wishing well
In a castle dark
Or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
But stories always end
And if you read between the lines
You’d know that I’m
Just trying to understand
The feelings that you lack
I never knew
I could feel this way
And I’ve got to say
That I just don’t get it
I don’t know
Where we went wrong
But the feeling’s gone
And I just can’t get it back

Don Quixote
Gordon Lightfoot

Through the woodland
Through the valley
Comes a horseman wild and free
Tilting at the windmills passing
Who can the brave young horseman be

He is wild
But he is mellow
He is strong
But he is weak
He is cruel
But he is gentle
He is wise
But he is meek

Reaching for his saddlebag
He takes a battered book into his hand
Standing like a prophet bold
He shouts across the ocean to the shore
‘Til he can shout no more

I have come o’er moor and mountain
Like the hawk upon the wind
I was once a shining knight
Who was the guardian of a king
I have searched the whole world over
Looking for a place to sleep
I have seen the strong survive
And I have seen the lean grown weak

See the children of the earth
Who wake to find the table bare
See the gentry in the country
Riding off to take the air

Reaching for his saddlebag
He takes a rusty sword into his hand
Then striking up a knightly pose
He shouts across the ocean to the shore
‘Til he can shout no more

See the jailer with his key
Who locks away all trace of sin
See the judge upon the bench
Who tries the case as best he can
See the wise and wicked ones
Who feed upon Life’s sacred fire
See the soldier with his gun
Who must be dead to be admired

See the man who tips the needle
See the man who buys and sells
See the man puts the collar
On the ones who dare not tell
See the drunkard in the tavern
Stemming gold to make ends meets
See the youth in ghetto black
Condemned to life upon the street

Reaching for his saddlebag
He takes a tarnished cross in to his hand
Then standing like a preacher now
He shouts across the ocean to the shore

Then in a blaze of tangled hooves
He gallops off across the dusty plain
In vain to search again
Where no one will hear

Through the woodland
Through the valley
Comes a horseman wild and free
Tilting at the windmills passing
Who can the brave young horseman be

He is wild
But he is mellow
He is strong
But he is weak
He is cruel
But he is gentle
He is wise
But he is meek

  8. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! If I remember right, the first time I ever heard "If You Could Read My Mind" was on one of my mom's soap operas 317 years ago. It was that way with BJ Thomas' "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head," as well.

By the way, I am really sorry that I couldn't find a better sounding video of "Don Quixote." For aside from having incredible lyrics, it is also an incredibly beautiful song to listen to.

  10. Awesome pick, I haven't heard Gordon in such a long time, and If you could read my mind is an all time classic, whether you label it Christian or not. A good song, is one with real feelings about a subject someone really believes in. It doesn't need to have swearing or perversion. It doesn't rely on a shock factor or dissing someones race, sex, religious background etc. Some of the great old time Rockers like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, while back then might have been thought of as bad for a good and decent person to listen to. If you really listen to their lyrics you would find that not to be the case. As far as today's music, it is getting harder each song, to wonder what their singing about and why can't they get through a verse without swearing or turning the opposite sex as some type of piranha.

Anyway, there's my late night rant, I will be able to sleep tonight thinking of that sing as I drift off. Have a great day :-)

  11. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Glenn!!! You have touched upon what is meant to be accomplished in this series. For ALL music is of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another)--regardless of what it appears to be about. This even applies to the abominable lyrics to many of the songs of today. For after listening to them, only an absolute moron would not be thinking, "Surely something really bad is going on."
