Come Monday...Marcus Wilder's Long Walk

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about, websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is subject to change, however. In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while. For rants promote change, and change can be good—right? Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

When I asked Mr. Wilder if he might be taking his second childhood a little too seriously, he just giggled. What’s up with that?

Okay, maybe I am embellishing just a little. For all of our communication has been via email. Therefore, I couldn’t possibly know if he really did cut loose with a giggle or not, but I have no doubt that he had a big ol’ Texas grin on his weathered face.

So, what do you think about the plans that he has made? Please be kind. For he may look like a little old man now, but he is still a Texan at heart.

  1. What an inspiring individual! I hope he takes his journey, and who cares what the doctors think? At his age, he should definitely be allowed to pursue his dreams. Life is precious, life is short and God only gives us one chance at it (er, not counting attitude adjustments that is ;o) Famed "American Cowgirl" Connie Reeves died at age 101 when she was thrown from her horse. I'm sure many people considered her a lunatic for continuing to ride at that age, but I applaud her for it. In all honesty, I can't think of a better way to go than doing something you love or something you have always wanted to do :o)

  3. Well now I'm intrigued and need to go and read more about the long walk. From what I saw in the video, I agree with Jen he should go for it.

  5. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! The only drawback I can imagine is his advanced age, but when you are as hard-headed (sorry, I meant to say determined) as he is, age really is just a number. I hope you do spend some time on his website, and maybe even get to know him more personally. For he truly is someone special.

  8. I don't know, but that may be part of it. For I could imagine that there would be some areas where walking just wouldn't be practical. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Adullamite!!!
