TWO FOR TUESDAY {REDO}

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

In The Ghetto
Elvis Presley

As the snow flies

On a cold and gray Chicago mornin’
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
In the ghetto

And his mama cries

‘Cause if there’s one thing that she don’t need
It’s another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto
In the ghetto

People
Don’t you understand
The child needs a helpin’ hand
Or he’ll grow to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me
Are we too blind to see
Do we simply turn our heads
And look the other way

Well the world turns

And a hungry little boy with a runny nose
Plays in the street as the cold wind blows
In the ghetto
In the ghetto

And his hunger burns

So he starts to roam the streets at night
And he learns how to steal
And he learns how to fight
In the ghetto
In the ghetto

Then one night in desperation
The young man breaks away
He buys a gun
Steals a car
Tries to run
But he don’t get far
And his mama cries

As a crowd gathers ‘round an angry young man
Face down on the street with a gun in his hand
In the ghetto
In the ghetto

As her young man dies
In the ghetto

On a cold and gray Chicago mornin’
Another little baby child is born
In the ghetto
In the ghetto

And his mama cries
In the ghetto
In the ghetto

Suspicious Minds
Elvis Presley

We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why can’t you see
What you’re doin’ to me
When you don’t believe a word I say

We can’t go on together
With suspicious minds
Suspicious minds
And we can’t build our dreams
On suspicious minds

So if an old friend I know
Drops by to say hello
Would I still see suspicion in your eyes

Here we go again
Askin’ where I’ve been
You can’t see the tears are real I’m cryin’
Tears I’m cryin’

We can’t go on together
With suspicious minds
Suspicious minds
And we can’t build our dreams
On suspicious minds

Oh let our love survive
I’ll dry the tears from your eyes
Let’s don’t let a good thing die
When honey
You know I’ve never
Lied to you
Mmm
Yeah
Yeah

We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Why can’t you see
What you’re doin’ to me
When you don’t believe a word I say

Don’t you know I’m
Caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Don’t you know I’m
Caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Don’t you know I’m
Caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Don’t you know I’m
Caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Don’t you know I’m
Caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Don’t you know I’m
Caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby

Don’t you know I’m
Caught in a trap

  2. Two great choices, loved them both and like Ann when I was young I loved watching his movies then I grew up and they were too cutesy, but I've always loved his music.

  3. I love the King. I really like both these songs. Especially "In the Ghetto". Such a powerfully emotional song.

  4. Thank you for posting, "In the Ghetto." That song has always had a very special place in my heart and always moves me and affirms my profession and my personal life and reminds me of what a bleeding heart God gave me. Sigh...so much to be done.

  5. Alas, I have never been all that much of an Elvis fan, but my wife is right in there with you. Nonetheless, I do love both of these songs, and our Heavenly Father has used them to touch me deeply. Thanks for stopping again, my dear Ann!!!

  6. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Jude!!! As I told Ann, I have never been all that much of an Elvis fan, but I can remember finding "Viva Las Vegas" to be quite interesting way back when. That was the one he made with Ann-Margret--wasn't it?

  7. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Clara!!! Be assured that it came as quite a shock to me to find that Mac Davis was the one who actually wrote "In The Ghetto." Here is a link to some information about the song:

  8. Even before our Heavenly Father started changing me, "In The Ghetto" had a powerful impact upon my heart, and that grew stronger afterward. May He grant you some peace, my dear Clueless. Thanks for stopping by again!!!
