The Christmas Shoes
NewSong
It was almost Christmas time
There I stood in another line
Tryin’ to buy that last gift or two
Not really in the Christmas mood
Standin’ right in front of me
Was a little boy waitin’ anxiously
Pacin’ ‘round like little boys do
And in his hands he held
A pair of shoes
And his clothes were worn and old
He was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn’t believe what I heard him say

Sir I want to buy these shoes
For my mama please
It’s Christmas Eve
And these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry sir
Daddy says there’s not much time
You see
She’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes
Would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful
If mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said
Son there’s not enough here
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said
Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she did without
Tell me sir
What am I gonna to do
Somehow I’ve got to buy her
These Christmas shoes
So I laid the money down
I just had to help him out
I’ll never forget the look on his face
When he said
Mama’s gonna look so great

Sir I want to buy these shoes
For my mama please
It’s Christmas Eve
And these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry sir
Daddy says there’s not much time
You see
She’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes
Would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful
If mama meets Jesus tonight

I knew I’d caught a glimpse of Heaven’s love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me
What Christmas is all about

Sir I want to buy these shoes
For my mama please
It’s Christmas eve
And these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry sir
Daddy says there’s not much time
You see
She’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes
Would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful
If mama meets Jesus tonight

And I want her to look beautiful
If mama meets Jesus tonight

  1. Um yeah, the tear ducts have gotten a little clogged and this was just the ticket to clean them out.

  2. Yeah, I had to keep wiping my eyes so that I could see the screen while I was typing out the lyrics. I dare not watch the video. I hope it was good. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!!

  3. Oh! Oh! That's what I keep telling my family I want for Christmas if they can't fix my reflux problems! They don't think I'm funny--I don't know why. (I think the song is sappy, Fish. Sorry)

  4. Yes, one would have to be a sensitive, caring person to cry over a song like that. Of course, it may very well be just because of the hip-waders keeping you insulted. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Lin!!!

  6. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Jude!!! Well, I have a love/hate relationship with this song. For unlike SOME people who visit here, I AM a highly sensitive person, and this song rips a chunk out of me every time I hear it. Maybe I should get me a good pair of hip-waders--huh?

  7. Ugh. I have to say... I liked this song the first few times I heard it, but we have a 24hr Christmas music radio (which I love!) that has completely over-played it. Now I have to switch the station when it comes on.

Beautiful song, beautiful sentiment, terrible radio station! :)

  9. I fully understand, my dear Cute. We have a local radio station here in Springfield, MO that started with the 24/7 Christmas music BEFORE THANKSGIVING! Thanks for stopping by!!!

  10. Fishman :-) Tis the season to be TIRED. I am sorry to have been away for awhile, but the holiday season tends to take all your free time and blogging time away from you. With that being said, I wish you a Very Merry Holiday and hope you get to enjoy many warm smiles with your whole family, kindest regards Glenn and all your friends at MOB :-)

  11. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Glenn!!! If you spent much of the time away from blogging tending to your family, the time was very well spent. Thank you so very much for the sentiments, and I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  12. That sounds like something that Hobbes would say. Is that you pretending to be Lin?
