This series will include as many of my all-time
favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak). Now, each one included in each edition will
have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination,
but they will not be numbered. For I
just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others. So, this will not be a countdown, but if you
are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter. Besides, with no countdown, this could go on
forever and ever! Oh, and despite the
fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite
as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make. For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by
nature.

For What It’s Worth
Buffalo Springfield
There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop
Children
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop
Hey
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say hooray for our side
It's time we stop
Hey
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line the man come and take you away
We better stop
Hey
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
You’d better stop
Hey
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
You’d better stop
Now
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
You’d better stop
Children
What's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Salt of My Tears
Martin Briley
I never did it
No I won't admit it
Why should I lie for you anymore
You never loved me
You pushed and shoved me
I seen a woman I never saw
I saw you laugh when the knife was twisted
It still hurts but the pain has shifted
I'm looking back at the time that drifted by
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
Feeling neglected
Used and rejected
You need a shoulder to lean upon
Maybe you've picked him
Found your next victim
Don't worry someone will come along
I broke the spell that you kept me under
I'd had enough of the rain and thunder
I lost track of the time and I wonder why
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
I'll sit around and drink a few more beers
Until the memory just disappears
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
I saw you laugh when the knife was twisted
It still hurts but the pain has shifted
I'm looking back at the time that drifted by
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cause you ain't worth the salt in my tears
'Cause
you ain't worth the salt in my tears
‘Cause
you ain't worth the salt in my tears

That first one came out in 1967? I remember it very well for being only 5 years old at the time. The second one I don't recall ever hearing
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! Hey, I can remember things that happened when I was five, and that song stayed in heavy rotation for a number of years. Martin's song came out in the 80s around the time Sam ran me off. Subsequently, it made quite an impression upon me, and depending upon my frame of mood at the time, I would either cheer or cry whenever I heard it on the radio or a bar jukebox.
DeleteIconic songs that have stirred people for a long time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Stephen!!! I got to actually see Buffalo Springfield's original tour bus at a travel plaza (of sorts) in what I called the Tracy (California) triangle. It was years after the band busted-up, and someone else owned and was driving the bus at the time. Nonetheless, I considered it very cool to see it.
DeleteI don't know any of them The top one is probably too old for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Marja!!! Yes, I am quite sure you are correct.
DeleteMartin Briley I'm not familiar with, but Buffalo Springfield, that's a good song!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Shadow!!! Salt of My Tears is the only song of Briley's I thought I was famiiar with, but it seems that he has written lots of great songs recorded by others of the years.
Delete...I'll have hubby 'research' him and if he comes up with something interesting I'll pass it on.
DeleteThanks for stopping by again, my dear Shadow!!! I would sure like to hear about what he finds.
