This weekly series
will include as many of my all-time favorite tunes as I can get my grubby little
hands on (so to speak). Now, each one
included in each edition will have some connection with the other—albeit only
as a figment of my imagination, but they will not be numbered. For I just cannot bring myself to rate some
higher than others. So, this will not be
a countdown, but if you are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t
matter. Besides, with no countdown, this
could go on forever and ever! Oh, and
despite the fact that there is absolutely no way that your musical tastes can
be as exquisite as mine, I welcome any suggestions that you might dare to
make. I am, after all, quite magnanimous
by nature.

Flirtin’ With
Disaster
Molly Hatchet
I’m travelin’ down
the road
And I’m flirtin’
with disaster
I’ve got the pedal
to the floor
My life is runnin’
faster
I’m out of money
Out of hope
It looks like
self-destruction
Well how much more
can we take
With all of this
corruption
We’re flirtin’ with
disaster
Y’all know what I
mean
And the way we run
our lives
It makes no sense
to me
I don’t know about
yourself
Or what you plan to
be yeah
When we gamble with
our time
We choose our
destiny
I’m travelin’ down
that lonesome road
Fell like I’m
draggin’ a heavy load
Yeah
I tried to turn my
head away
I feel about the
same most every day
Speedin’ down the
fast lane
Playin’ from town
to town
The boys and I have
been burnin’ it up
Can’t seem to slow
it down
I’ve got the pedal
to the floor
Our lives are
runnin’ faster
Got our sights set
straight ahead
But ain’t sure what
we’re after
Fliritin’ with
disaster
Y’all know what I
mean
You know the way we
run our lives
It makes no sense
to me
I don’t know about
yourself
Or what you want to
be yeah
When we gamble with
our time
We choose our
destiny
Yeah we’re
travelin’ down that lonesome road
Feel like I’m
draggin’ a heavy load
Don’t try to turn
my head away
I’m flirtin’ with
disaster every day
You are too baby
It ain’t for
everybody
Yeah
Come on man
Flirtin’ with
disaster yeah
Y’all know what I
mean
You know the way we
run our lives
It makes no sense
to me
I don’t know about
yourself
Or what you plan to
be
When we gamble with
our time
We choose our
destiny
Yeah
We’re traveling
down that lonesome road
Feel like I’m
draggin’ a heavy load
Don’t try to turn
my head away
I’m fliritin’ with
disaster every day

Carry On Wayward
Son
Kansas
Carry on my wayward
son
There’ll be peace
when you are done
Lay your weary head
to rest
Don’t you cry no
more
Once I rose above
the noise and confusion
Just to get a
glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever
higher
But I flew too high
Though my eyes
could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind
could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices
when I’m dreaming
I can hear them say
Carry on our
wayward son
There’ll be peace
when you are done
Lay your weary head
to rest
Don’t you cry no
more
Masquerading as a
man with a reason
My charade is the
event of the season
And if I claim to
be a wise man
Well it surely
means that I don’t know
On a stormy sea of
moving emotion
Tossed about like
I’m a ship on the ocean
I set a course for
winds of fortune
But I hear the
voices say
Carry on our
wayward son
There’ll be peace
when you are done
Lay your weary head
to rest
Don’t you cry no
more
No
Carry on
You will always
remember
Carry on
Nothing equals the
splendor
Now your life’s no
longer empty
Surely heaven waits
for you
Carry on our
wayward son
There’ll be peace
when you are done
Lay your weary head
to rest
Don’t you cry
Don’t you cry no
more
No more

I never listened to Molly Hatchet but Kansas was one of my favorites and I had that very album back in high school. Actually I think I had it on 8 track and I played it constantly in my car
ReplyDeleteOh yes, 8-tracks. I wore out two of Heart's Dreamboat Annie, and I was quite reluctant to switch over to cassettes when the time came.
