Come Monday...Slick Adgitizing

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

If you haven’t noticed before, may I now please direct your attention to my side-bar, and if you will scroll down a little bit from the top, you will see an [Adgitize] widget. Cutting to the chase, Adgitize is another advertising service that is quite similar to Entrecard.

No, that is just not right. For unlike Entrecard, you can actually make some money with Adgitize, and also unlike Entrecard (very much unlike, actually), the management of Adgitize is very accessible.

Speaking of such, I contacted Mr. Ken Brown, who is the owner-operator, chief cook and head bottle washer at Adgitize, a few weeks ago about something that really bothers me, and he assured me that he would immediately look into it. Some progress has been made, but there is a long way to go.

The thing that really bothers me is the placing of other ads very close to the top of the Adgitize widget. Some even take it as far as to place them right up against the top.

No, that would not be a problem with an Entrecard widget. For they only hold one ad at a time.  Whereas, an Adgitize widget can hold several, with there being a number of options available on how many and the configuration.

It really is pretty slick. For unless you are aware of what is going on, you will click on those "other" ads while thinking that you are scoring Adgitize points.

No, this is not to say that everyone who has placed "other" ads way too close to their Adgitize widget have done so with nefarious intentions. In fact, I am quite sure that some were just trying to make their sites look more presentable when they set it up that way.

Nonetheless, it is still something to look out for. For there are only so many hours in a day, and making wasted Adgitize clicks just makes the day a little shorter for something else.

On the other hand, if you are happy to click-on the "other" ads, this is all a moot point—isn’t it? That is, except for rewarding the efforts of those who are trying to be slick, of course. Perhaps it would make it easier to justify by thinking of them as being clever—huh?

Included below are some of the sites that I am talking about. Be assured that there are many more.

  1. Fishhawk--
I am all the way right with you on this one. Thank you for taking the proactive approach and contacting Mr. Brown.

I doubt very much that they are trying to make their site 'more presentable'(but your a nice guy, I'm not). In fact I think bunching ANYTHING together makes a site look like MIERDA!

You do have to be careful not to prematurely click, which slows you down, making dropping, clicking even more of a pain in the CULO!

If I were Grand Blogmeister for the day I would end dropping, clicking FOREVER and put a emphisis or reward on READING and COMMENTING. We(bloggers)are in a way playing right in the hands of click, drop sites in that our 'bounce rate' is getting killed.

And let's face it if we are paying attention, we really know who our READERS are.

It's a dammed if you do, dammed if you don't until the blog is huge.

    Apologies for the rant.
    Aloha!

  2. I cannot disagree more. You nail it @FishHawk and I was thinking that @Ken ain't not sleeping anymore considering the fast response you get from him.

  3. I was with Adgitize and Entrecard when I first started out, I soon realized that visitors from these sites left my blog as soon as they'd clicked into it. As my blog grows, it is the search engines that send me most of my quality traffic now.

  4. I never tried adgitize so i can't say anything about it. I rarely even pay much attention to entrecard any more

  5. I have been caught a time or to on this as well. That is why I always wait to make sure that the link I am clicking on is an Adgitize link

  7. wait...how come my blog is not mentioned here ;) just kidding.

I'm a victim of this strategy too...someone placed his/her other 125x125 blog on top of Adgitized Ad group and I thought it's part of it. Now, I'm very much careful on this.

  8. Hi dear FishHawk, with a click time, I think it would solve. About who puts that badge are not relevant to adgitize (very close), do not know how to answer, in my opinion is not nothing wrong, but this is my opinion.

  9. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Don!!! Giving bonus points for leaving legitimate comments is a brilliant idea! Of course, then there would be what determines a legitimate comment to argue about, and there are times when just a simple, "WHAT?," says it all very, very well. If I am ever able to start a new and improved Entrecard/Adgitize, I will most certainly include your idea in the mix. Please, just don't expect many large checks in the mail for a while, however. (LOL?)

  10. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Sir Rob!!! I emailed Ken a link to this piece right after it was published, and he said that he would be taking some more action on this problem in the next week or so. Hopefully, just an email asking for some things to be rearranged will take care of it. For I do not want to see anyone removed.

  11. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ann!!! Since I don't have a Duke, I have to participate in things like Adgitize if I want more than myself to see just how brilliant I am. Alas, not even my wife appreciates me like she should...

  12. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Dickster!!! That is another side of this issue that I neglected to include. For there have been many times when I have not clicked-on an ad because of not being sure if it was an Adgitize one or not.

  13. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Sandie!!! I am a little bewildered, myself.

  14. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Eric!!! I wonder if there is someone out there pushing this strategy?

  15. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear David!!! This has nothing to do with the bounce-rate. For this is about being fooled into thinking that you are clicking on an ad that will count towards the hundred points that Adgitizers get paid for. Be assured that I want to believe that you are not one of the ones who are trying to trick people.

  16. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Ryan!!! Well, you've got kilts and haggis. I don't.

  17. Hi Dear, You are right to believe that I do not care about anyone, I have to manage two blogs and I never had any intention of behaving badly. On the contrary, you do the example of entrecard, is there any webmaster with at least 6-7 - sites / blogs, which regularly clicked 300 ads for every site, all for multiplying one day become more than 2,000 clicks per day. How do they do? Maybe some trick? I think so. It is likely that in real life these people have the talent to do tricks with people. My English is horrible, but I hope to have given the idea. Thanks for the comment that you did.

  18. You are most welcome, my dear David.

  19. This is so true. The top and lower badges are slightly out of alignment, but for really long rows, you'd hardly ever notice. :(

  20. Thanks for stopping by, my dear Teecup!!! It would take a real keen eye to discern any misalignment on many of them.

  21. since reading this post the first time, I have been extra diligent in looking for these types of ads. One of the things that I found to be most offensive is not just having an ad right on top of the Adgitize widget, but there are several sites that have a headline that says "adgitize" and immediately below it, but above the adgitize group is one of those ads you so eloquently described.

  22. Thanks for stopping by again, my dear Dickster!!! Yes, there are some very unscrupulous people out there, and I got suckered again just the other day. I hope Ken finds the time to do something about it soon.
