This series will include as many of my all-time
favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak). Now, each one included in each edition will
have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination,
but they will not be numbered. For I
just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others. So, this will not be a countdown, but if you
are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter. Besides, with no countdown, this could go on
forever and ever! Oh, and despite the
fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite
as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make. For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by
nature.

Ticket to Ride
The Beatles
I think I'm gonna be sad
I think it's today
Yeah
The girl that’s driving me mad
Is going away
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care
She said that living with me
Was bringing her down
Yeah
She would never be free
When I was around
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care
I don't know why she's riding so high
She oughta think twice
She oughta do right
By me
Before she gets to saying goodbye
She oughta think twice
She oughta do right
I think I'm gonna be sad
I think it's today
Yeah
The girl that’s driving me mad
Is going away
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care
I don't know why she's riding so high
She oughta think twice
She oughta do right
By me
Before she gets to saying goodbye
She oughta think twice
She oughta do right
By me
She said that living with me
Was bringing her down
Yeah
She would never be free
When I was around
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care
My baby don't care
My baby don't care
My baby don't care
My baby don't care
My baby don't care

Theme from Shaft
Isaac Hayes
Who's the black private dick
That's a sex machine to all the chicks
Shaft
You damn right
Who is the man that would risk his neck
For his brother man
Shaft
Can you dig it
Who's the cat that won't cop out
When there's danger all about
Shaft
Right on
They say this cat Shaft is a bad mother
Shut your mouth
But I'm talkin' 'bout Shaft
Then we can dig it
He's a complicated man
But no one understands him
But his woman
John Shaft

One of my bands used to do a Beatles medley, and Ticket to Ride was one of the songs included therein. It was lots of fun, for the band and the audience.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Silver Fox!!! These were two of the songs we played in competition and concerts while I played valve-trombone in the Cassville High School (Wildcats) stage band from 1973-76. That punctuating, very deep bass note in the shaft theme was mine to hit, and there was one time during one of our competitions when it came out sounding more like a splat than a true tone. I can still see the look our band director gave me at the time. Thankfully, my screw-up was overshadowed by the incredible excellence to the rest of the performance, and we won first-place going away again. I think it was five straight years when neither our concert or stage band failed to win over-all first=place in every district and state (Missouri) competition. John Knight was our director at the time, and when he left for a music conservatory in Ohio a couple of years after I graduated in '76, it was the end of the dominance of the music program.
DeleteHow wonderful to hear proper music on this blog for a change.
ReplyDeleteShame the Shaft rubbish was linked with it.
