This series will include as many of my all-time
favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak). Now, each one included in each edition will
have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination,
but they will not be numbered. For I
just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others. So, this will not be a countdown, but if you
are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter. Besides, with no countdown, this could go on
forever and ever! Oh, and despite the
fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite
as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make. For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by
nature.

Jump Into the Fire
Harry Nilsson
You can climb a mountain
You can swim the sea
You can jump into the fire
But you'll never be free
You can shake me up
Or I can break you down
Whoa oh oh oh oh
Whoa oh oh oh oh
We can make each other happy
Or we can make each other happy
We can make each other happy
Or we can make each other happy
You can climb a mountain
You can swim the sea
You can jump into the fire
But you'll never be free
No no no
You can shake me up
Or I can bring you down
Whoa oh oh oh oh
Whoa oh oh oh oh
We can make each other happy
Or we can make each other happy
Or we can make each other happy
We can make each other happy
You can climb a mountain
You can swim the sea
You can jump into the fire
But you'll never be free
No no no no
You can shake me up
Or I can bring you down
Whoa oh oh oh oh
Whoa oh oh oh oh
Whoa oh oh oh oh
Whoa oh oh oh oh
We can make each other happy
We can make each other happy
We can make each other happy
We can make each other happy

Some Nights
Fun.
Some nights I stay up cashing in my bad luck
Some nights I call it a draw
Some nights I wish that my lips could build a castle
Some nights I wish they'd just fall off
But I still wake up
I still see your ghost
Oh, Lord
I'm still not sure
What I stand for
Oh
What do I stand for
What do I stand for
Most nights
I don't know
Anymore
Oh
Oh whoa oh
Oh who oh
Oh who oh
Oh oh
Oh
Oh who oh
Oh whoa oh
Oh whoa oh…
This is it boys
This is war
What are we waiting for
Why don't we break the rules already
I was never one to believe the hype
Save that for the black and white
I try twice as hard
And I'm half as liked
But here they come again
To jack my style
That's alright
I found a martyr in my bed tonight
She stops my bones from wondering
Just who I am
Who I am
Who I am
Oh who am I
Mmm
Mmm
Well
Aome nights I wish that this all would end
'Cause I could use some friends for a change
And some nights I'm scared you'll forget me again
Some nights I always win
I always win
But I still wake up
I still see your ghost
Oh Lord
I'm still not sure
What I stand for
Oh
What do I stand for
What do I stand for
Most nights
I don't know
Oh come on
So this is it
I sold my soul for this
Washed my hands of that for this
I miss my mom and dad for this
Come on
No. When I see stars
When I see
When I see stars
That's all they are
When I hear songs
They sound like this one
So come on
Oh
Come on
Oh
Come on
Oh
Come on
Well
That is it guys
That is all
Five minutes in
And I'm bored again
Ten years of this
I'm not sure if anybody understands
This one is not for the folks at home
Sorry to leave mom
I had to go
Who the f#$% wants to die alone
All dried up in the desert sun
My heart is breaking for my sister
And the con that she calls love
When I look into my nephew's eyes
Man you wouldn't believe
The most amazing things
That can come from
Some terrible nights
Ah
Oh
Oh who oh
Oh whoa oh
Oh whoa oh
Oh oh
Oh
Oh whoa oh
Oh whoa oh
Oh whoa oh
Oh oh
The other night
You wouldn't believe the dream I just had
About you and me
I called you up
But we'd both agree
It's for the best
You didn't listen
It's for the best
We get our distance
Oh
It's for the best
You didn't listen
It's for the best
We get our distance
Oh

ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Adullamite!!! Feeling adventurous--are we?
DeleteThis is just the kind of music to open up my soul, and my dogs as well! If I groove with the music so do they! It's like mom this is so cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Karen!!! I had forgotten all about Nilsson's Jump Into the Fire until hearing it again during Goodfellas. It was the same with Donovan's Atlantis. Needless to say, the movie has a killer soundtrack.
DeleteShaking up my soul! Such a song, and such video. Wow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Susan!!! Yeah, Fun.'s video is awesome, and the more I reflect upon the lyrics, the more comes out.
DeletePleasurable thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCan't say I know either one of these songs. Well I suppose I could say I knew them but that would be a lie so i won't.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! Well, it is a little too late to try to project yourself as being a sensible person, but it is sure cute of you to try. (LOL?)
DeleteNot familiar with these songs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Stephen!!! I hope they expanded your horizon some.
DeleteJump Into the Fire is an underrated classic! The only songs of his that I ever hear on oldies radio nowadays are Everybody's Talkin' and that blasted Coconut! And this is the man who had such a huge hit with Without You. I still miss him. Hard to believe he's been gone over 20 years.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Silver Fox!!! Oh yeah, Without You is most definitely on the list to be included in this series, and if I never hear about putting the lime in the coconut again, I will be very happy. Could he have been truly schizophrenic? For how could the same person record both songs (along with Jump Into the Fire, for that matter)?
DeleteI'm in total agreement. Never cared for Coconut.
