This series will include as many of my all-time
favorite (ATF) tunes as I can get my grubby little hands on (so to speak). Now, each one included in each edition will
have some connection with the other—albeit only as a figment of my imagination,
but they will not be numbered. For I
just cannot bring myself to rate some higher than others. So, this will not be a countdown, but if you
are enjoying them as much as I do, it won’t matter. Besides, with no countdown, this could go on
forever and ever! Oh, and despite the
fact that there is absolutely no way your musical tastes could be as exquisite
as mine, I welcome any suggestions you might dare to make. For I am, after all, quite magnanimous by
nature.

Get Together
The Youngbloods
Love is but the song we sing
And fear's the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Know the dove is on the wing
And you may not know why
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Some will come and some will go
We shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but a moment’s sunlight
Fading in the grass
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
If you hear the song I sing
You will understand
Listen
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It's there at your command
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
I said
C'mon people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Right now
Right now

Come Together
The Beatles
Here come old flattop
He come groovin' up slowly
He got joo-joo eyeball
He one holy roller
He got
Hair
Down
To his knees
Got to be a joker
He just do what he please
He wear no shoeshine
He got toe jam football
He got monkey finger
He shoot Coca Cola
He say
I know you
You know me
One thing I can tell you is
You got to be free
Come together
Right now
Over me
He bag production
He got walrus gumboot
He got Ono sideboard
He one spinal cracker
He got
Feet
Down
Below his knees
Hold you in his armchair
You can feel his disease
Come together
Right now
Over me
Right
He come
He roller coaster
He got early warning
He got muddy water
He one mojo filter
He say
One and one
And one
Is three
Got to be good looking
'Cause he's so hard to see
Come together
Right now
Over me
Oh
Come together
Yeah
Come together
Yeah
Come together
Yeah
Come together
Yeah
Come together
Yeah
Come together
Yeah
Come together
Yeah
Uh
Come together
Yeah
Come together
Yeah…

Yes Jerry, my taste is exquisite as yours today. "Get Together" is a big favorite. Today I sat (about all I can do), listened and once again danced with joy of the rhythm wholeness of a wonderful piece of music. I rarely understand words in music, so I miss a large...maybe, maybe not. Often the instrumentals says it all for me.
ReplyDeleteThe Beatles video is unavailable. Know that I am enjoying your site. A lot.
Thanks for stopping by, my dear byGeorge!!! I am really glad you enjoyed this. The monitor for our main computer went out. So, I am having to use another that makes it quite difficult for me to interact with people. Hopefully, the new monitor will be here soon, and then I can get over to see what you have been up to lately.
DeleteThe Beatles, always good!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Adullamite!!! Were they singing about you?
DeleteNever saw the words of Come Together before, I would say they were written by John not Paul!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Jenny!!! I don't know. Paul sure penned some interesting lyrics during his Wings era.
DeleteOkay it's true, I connect my past with songs. But especially with the Beatles, each every song they sing is attached to some part of my life. Maybe because my first memory of them was as a little girl swinging on m yvery own backyard swing set while their voices came sailing out of my sister's bedroom window.Songs and Memories.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Karen!!! I am the same way about songs and memories. Sugarloaf's Green Eyed Lady is tied to hearing it for the first time on WLS from far-away Chicago over the speakers to the AM/FM/8-Track stereo I had in my room in our home down the road from Bates Corner after moved up from Eagle Rock (all in Missouri).
DeleteBoth of these groups were popular when i was a kid, andd of course I listened to anything related to the Beatles.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Stephen!!! As I have said before, I was a much bigger fan of Three Dog Night at the time, but Come Together had me paying much more attention to The Beatles.
Deleteboth are excellent golden oldies
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Ann!!! I am reallty glad you enjoyed this. I will sure be glad when the new monitor comes, and I can start seeing what I would like to say much easier. You have probably been crafting up a storm--huh?
DeleteI loved the Youngbloods!! Unfortunately, my ex took the lyrics too seriously and thought he could "love one another" literally!! LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, my dear Barb!!! Strongly reinforced by Stephen Stills' Love the One You're With--huh? It is good that you can now make light of what had to have been a very painful time in your life. There are some songs (like Phil Collins' Against All Odds) that I still have a hard time listening to.
